It is with a hopeful but completely shattered heart that I am looking to rehome my beautiful boy, Waylon. Waylon is a purebred AKC registered Golden Retriever who just turned two years old on March 8th and weighs approximately 73 pounds. I have had him since he was a tiny puppy, and this is, without question, one of the hardest decisions I have ever made.
After many months of in-home behavioral training, medical intervention, careful management, gates, rotations and routines for all of the dogs in my home, it has become clear that Waylon and one of my other dogs simply cannot safely coexist with one another. The reality is that sometimes dog dynamics and personalities do not cooperate no matter how much love, effort, and determination you throw at them. He is honestly the sweetest boy and possibly, with some decompression time and additional training, he could work through his reactivity to other dogs but for now it is just where he is at. He currently has a few prepaid training sessions through High Expectations Dog Training in Camas that will transfer with him in order to assist with his transition to a new home.
Waylon deserves a loving, happy and active life where he does not have to be managed, separated or stressed. He deserves to just be somebody's baby. Due to his current reactivity, Waylon needs to be the only dog in the home. He has never been around cats so it would be best that he be in a home without them until that could be vetted.
Because this is so difficult, a close friend of mine, Waylon's auntie, will be vetting potential adopters and will need to see the home and surroundings before adoption is considered. There will be a $300 rehoming fee. This is to ensure that his new family is financially stable and prepared to continue training and vet care as needed. Waylon has received regular veterinary care and grooming so he is accustomed to being handled by humans and does well with this.
His ideal home would likely be with someone who is home often, whether that is a work from home person, retiree, or stay at home family. He absolutely thrives on companionship and being close to his people. He wants to be where you are at all times. He would also thrive with someone who has an active lifestyle that he can tag along with for walks, hikes etc. He also needs to be in a single family home with a fully fenced yard (fencing needs to be at least 6 foot tall), no apartments please. He would probably do best in a home without very small children, solely because he is still young, enthusiastic, and occasionally forgets he is not a tiny lap dog. He is goofy, sensitive, affectionate, a little anxious, deeply loyal, and genuinely one of the sweetest dogs I have ever known. Everyone who meets Waylon loves him. He is the kind of dog strangers stop to pet. The kind of dog who leans his entire body weight into you because he just wants to be close.
A signed adoption contract is required, stating that if for any reason the adopter should be unable to care for him, he will be returned so that I can help him find the right home. He will come with his collar, harness, leash, toys and his large crate. He is also chipped and this will be transferred to his new family.
