This stunning 13-month-old male Golden Retriever, Banks, is searching for an active, loving, understanding and very caring new home. You see, his present family got him as a puppy for their four children, ages 1-8- with little understanding that the tiny 2-month-old puppy would grow into an 80 lb. dog who needed lots of activity and exercise daily.
Banks has been well cared for medically and is in excellent condition but sadly, his emotional needs have not been considered well. He is kept behind a gate, away from the family in the house and the companionship of humans and their love. With children that young there is always a mound of toys and clothing laying around, and being a retriever, Banks thinks they are his to carry around which is often met by loud shouting and even some hitting before he surrenders his "find". With so many young children, these incidents lead to much noise, chaos and yelling which Banks finds scary. He is more on the timid side and afraid of large black trucks but his most significant concern is the screaming, running and yelling of all the children in his home.
He is a loving boy who enjoys long walks, playing with toys and tug of war, frisbee, playing with other dogs, training exercises and salmon and meat treats. He also enjoys licky mats, kongs and chew toys. Banks is playful, and eager to please. He loves to cuddle and be loved, his house and crate trained and is a good boy in the car.
Banks is in excellent health, heartworm negative, neutered, current on all vaccinations, microchipped and wormed. He has had training and GREAT Rescue will provide training sessions with our trainer in his new home as he decompresses from the noise and chaos of his home. Banks' new family must have a fenced yard, no children under 15, someone home most of the time since he has only been alone up to 3 hours, a young, happy, large dog for companionship or no dog at all if his new family is very active and will include Banks in their daily activities, provide long walks and lots of loving. His new family must also reside in the Jacksonville area so his training can be continued with our Rescue trainer.
