🇺🇸
Harlingen, Texas

female, medium, young

DESCRIPTION

Meet Lola! She is an adorable 7 and 1/2 month old puppy who is currently being fostered in Waukesha, WI from a rescue in TX. Lola is a very high energy mixed breed with Belgian Malinois in her DNA and she has similar looks to a Berger Piccard. She also likely has Glen of Maal terrier in her DNA. She is the sweetest and most adorable lovey and is extremely smart and will therefore continue to be highly trainable. Her birth date was 12/28/25. As of 7/10/26 she weighed 23 lbs. She had her rabies, Bordetella, DHPP and Lepto vaccinations in March and they are not due again until March of 2027. She is spayed and has healed nicely. She is heartworm negative.

Here is where Lola excels:
- People friendly!
- Dog friendly!
- Potty trained - no accidents in house or crate
- Crate trained
- Loves to chew on toys - loves harder, safe toys to gnaw on and crinkly and soft ones, too
- Eats well - dry and moist and some crunchy nuggets
- Learning to walk well on leash - we use 2 leashes one clipped to front of harness and one clipped to collar for extra safety
- Walks well solo with one human and as part of the pack (my 3 resident dogs plus her, with 2 human walkers)
- Loves to be pet! She will give gentle kisses when calm - very affectionate - lives to lie in your lap
- Doesn't bark much - most often only when resident dogs bark
- Learning to play fetch with a tennis ball - brings it back and wants you to throw it again - she loves to run and play
- Wants to play with resident dogs, but has learned to give them space based on their social cues - resident dogs are older and smaller
- Learning "Down" and "Sit" commands with patience and repetition and from mentor resident dogs; working on sitting for treats on walks

Challenge Areas:
- Highly energetic and needs to be walked at least twice a day
- Needs to be outside frequently and allowed to run and play fetch
- Has learned to dig holes so this must be monitored - she is good at being distracted with outside playtime activities
- Jumps and lunges when first let out of crate or seeing people who come into the home or fenced in yard, but it's just because she's so excited! We are working on manners.

Ideal Forever Home:
- Must have at least a 6 foot high fence dug deep into the ground with a good amount of room for running and playing - she does frequently get the zoomies!
- Cannot be left alone outside - she does get into things and as a puppy currently puts many things into her mouth outside and on walks - but she will let you take them out of her mouth, especially by distracting her with a ball or other toy or a treat
- She must have a safe, separate room in the home with her crate to allow for downtime, decompression and eating. She does well eating out of a slow feeder. She does get into things when left alone for too long in the room. She sleeps in the crate in my bedroom which is also her decompression room. My dogs sleep in my bed with me. I don't think it would go well with her in the bed too because my dogs would not want to share me. She seems content for us all to be in the same room.
- Must have one other high energy, ideally similar in size and younger, mentor dog in the home. My 3 resident dogs are all seniors and she does overwhelm them. They do very well on walks as well as at dog parks together. Neutral spaces. For her forever home she needs a dog she can be around throughout the day. Eventually they may both be able to sleep with humans once they are used to each other.
- Currently she is chewing on lots of things she shouldn't. given that she is a puppy. We have her in a mostly puppy proof room in our home, but sometimes have to crate her in between walks and outside time because she has gotten into things. We always crate her if we are not home.
- She needs to be taken out at least every 2-3 hours during the day to let out her energy. She needs to go to a forever home where at least one adult is home more often than not.
- We have older cats who she chases, because she wants to play with them, but they are not interested. If you have cats, they would need their own space to retreat to.
- Due to her high jumping and lunging at this stage, and her strength when walking, she needs to go to a home who has children at least age 12 or older, and who would never be left alone to care for the dog. She still needs a lot of training and is still a puppy. I do believe she will always be high energy due to her breed mix.

Whoever adopts her will get her harness, collar and one leash, her slow feeder, and all of her toys. I would also supply a week's worth of food to allow for transition.

She had been with us for 2 weeks and in 2 weeks will have to go back to TX and start all over again if we cannot find the right adoption family for her up here.
