Abel is an adorable 4-month-old male puppy with a striking black and tan coat and the cutest natural bob tail. He currently weighs about 15 pounds, and we anticipate he will grow to be a medium-sized dog when fully grown.
Abel and his brother found themselves in a rural Texas shelter through no fault of their own. Now safe in his Wisconsin foster home, he’s thriving — but he’s ready to find a forever family to call his own.
Abel’s brother recently had a DNA test done, and the results showed a fun mix including German Shorthaired Pointer, Miniature Australian Shepherd, Great Pyrenees, Great Dane, Mastiff, Bluetick Coonhound, and German Shepherd. While every puppy is unique, this gives a glimpse into the likely mix that makes up Abel too — a blend of athleticism, intelligence, loyalty, and a little guardian instinct.
Abel is a happy, social pup who loves people and enjoys playing with other dogs. He’s being fostered in a home with cats; while he does okay with them, he can get excited and may chase or bark, so continued training will help him learn good feline manners.
He is doing wonderfully with potty training and crate training in his foster home, but like any young puppy, he will need continued guidance as he adjusts to a new routine. Abel loves to play hard and then snuggle even harder. Soft blankets and cozy dog beds are his favorite spots after a fun play session.
He absolutely adores kids and would love a family where he can grow up surrounded by love, structure, and plenty of belly rubs.
He is up to date on vaccines, dewormed and microchipped, and he comes with his medical records and interstate health certificate from a veterinary examination prior to leaving Texas, which certifies him to be in good condition.
His adoption fee is $400, which will be used to support the many animals in our care whose medical bills far surpass their much lower adoption fee. We use those funds to support our program of readying additional dogs, puppies and kittens which we transport and adopt out in the northern United States. Our goal is to get as many homeless animals out of south eastern Texas, where we have a severe pet overpopulation crisis.
