German Shepherd Dog Dogs Available for Adoption

“Hildi” is a 75-lb, 3-yo spayed female GSD (or GSD mix) who is affectionate, playful and well-mannered. Hildi is healthy, up-to-date on core vaccinations, and microchipped. She entered the shelter wearing an "Emotional Support Animal" harness—and we can see why!

Hildi is quite affectionate and cuddly with her own people, but not overly-clingy. She is initially cautious around new people and will sometimes bark at them. However, she accepts them very quickly once she knows they are friendly. She also did fine with two 10-yo kids that she met.

Hildi gets along very well with the other large dogs in her foster home and has very readable body language.

Hildi has not been around cats since she was rescued.

Hildi is the perfect mix of active companion and calm house guest. She is housetrained, crate-trained and only chews on her own toys.

Hildi has participated in two training classes with Daack Pack (https://daackpack.com/) and would love to continue her training. She readily obeys basic commands such as “sit, down, paw, and watch me."

Hildi walks great on a leash without distractions. However, she can be quite reactive towards other dogs on walks. However, she is treat-motivated and eager to learn, making her highly trainable with a patient handler.

Hildi absolutely loves playing with balls and toys, but has no object-guarding behavior. She also loves to go for car rides!

Hildi was rescued from the Sac County (“Bradshaw”) animal shelter in late February 2026, just 30 minutes before her euthanasia deadline. She has since been in a foster home in Sacramento.
