Koa’s story is one of resilience, strength, and an incredibly loving heart. At just five months old, this sweet girl was surrendered after being attacked by another resident dog in her previous home. She suffered a skull fracture and multiple bite wounds, including injuries inside her mouth. Despite everything she has been through, Koa has shown nothing but courage — and she is recovering beautifully.
Today, Koa is proving herself to be a gentle, affectionate, and playful puppy who adores human companionship. She seeks out love, enjoys playtime, and melts into you for comfort and reassurance. Her sweet nature shines brighter than her past.
What Koa Needs:
An only-dog home while she continues her recovery
A low-traffic, calm environment where she can feel safe and secure
A family committed to positive reinforcement obedience training
Crate training to provide her with structure and a safe space of her own
Once fully healed and properly socialized at her own pace, Koa may enjoy having a canine companion in the future. For now, her focus should be on healing — both physically and emotionally — and building confidence.
Like many young German Shepherds, Koa is intelligent, loyal, and eager to bond deeply with her people. With guidance, patience, and love, she will grow into an incredibly devoted companion.
Koa has already overcome so much in her short life. Now she just needs a family willing to show her that her best days are ahead of her.
If you’re ready to give this brave girl the safe, loving home she deserves, Koa is ready to give you her whole heart in return. If you are interested in meeting Koa or another homeless pet at Macomb County Animal Control, they are open M-F from 10am-4pm. Adoption fee: $350
