DESCRIPTION

Sunny Salem is what happens when somebody takes a shepherd, shrinks her down a few sizes, adds a set of tippy-tappy feet, and turns the happiness dial all the way up. She’s petite, a little adorably mismatched, and has this wonderfully endearing way of moving through the world that reminds us of Jimothy, the internet’s beloved little raccoon. We can’t fully explain the resemblance. It’s less about how she looks and more about the *essence*. Tiny body. Funny little walk. Pure joy. Completely impossible not to root for.

Go watch Sunny Salem on YouTube and you’ll understand exactly what we mean. Watch for the happy hops, the tippy-tappies, and the sweet little face that somehow gets even cuter when someone starts talking to her: https://youtu.be/1briaffByV0

Sunny Salem is a shepherd-type girl, although in rescue, breed and age are always our best guesses. What we can say with confidence is that somebody forgot to give her the standard shepherd sizing package. She is itty-bitty! Her petite frame only adds to her charm, especially when she starts doing her tiny excited footwork while waiting for a treat or soaking up some sweet talk from her people.

And Sunny LOVES her people. She is affectionate, friendly, and happiest when she can be close enough to collect pets, cuddles, and whatever attention happens to be available. Talk sweet to her and those little feet start moving. Offer affection and she melts right in. There’s something incredibly sincere about her happiness. Sunny seems genuinely delighted that you’re here and would very much like to be included in whatever happens next.

She brings that same sunny personality to other dogs, too. Sunny Salem is friendly with dogs of all sizes and has a really nice social balance. If another dog wants to play, she is more than happy to bounce into a game of chase and zip around with them. If they’re not interested, that’s okay too. She can simply share space and enjoy the company without insisting that everyone participate in her agenda. She could happily join a home with canine friends, but she has plenty of personality and love to offer all on her own.

She has also spent many days sharing space with our house cat and has consistently been respectful of him. She’s had plenty of opportunity to be around him, observe him, and exist alongside him, and she has shown us that she understands the assignment: the cat is a roommate, not a recreational activity.

Sunny is also lovely on leash and has that sweet medium-energy balance that makes everyday life feel very doable. She’ll happily get out for walks, explore with you, romp around with dog friends, and participate in the day, but she doesn’t need life to be one giant endurance event. Give her some fun, some companionship, and plenty of opportunities to be near her people, and this girl is pretty darn content.

There is just something about Sunny Salem. Maybe it’s the tiny shepherd body. Maybe it’s the tippy-tappies. Maybe it’s her funny little bounce or the way she seems so genuinely thrilled to receive affection. Whatever the formula is, it worked. She is sweet, social, affectionate, dog-friendly, cat-respectful, and delightfully herself.

If your household could use a tiny dose of Jimothy-esque joy trotting around on four paws, Sunny Salem may be your girl.
