Billy Ray Waterbug thinks all water deserves an enthusiastic and joyful investigation and every belly rub should last at least a few minutes longer than you may have planned. Estimated to be around 1 year old, this happy-go-lucky boy has a heart as big as his love for the water. Whether he's splashing through a kiddie pool, romping around the backyard, or simply soaking up affection from his favorite people, Billy Ray approaches life with an endearing combination of goofy charm and gentle sweetness that's incredibly easy to love.

We believe Billy Ray is a German Shepherd mix of some sort, but with rescue dogs that is simply our best educated guess. His exact age and breed cannot be guaranteed.
Billy Ray is currently being fostered in a loving home where he is being given a beautiful start to house-dog life. His foster describes him as having "not a mean bone in his body," and it's easy to see why. He's affectionate without being demanding, loves a good belly rub, and has the kind of goofy, sweet personality that is hard not to smile back at.
Like all young dogs, Billy Ray is still learning new skills and details about the world but thanks to his foster he is house and crate trained, has great basic leash skills- walking politely on leash and relaxing inside the home. Once he arrived he rather quickly settled into the rhythm with a dog friend and is now a boy who happily joins his family on the couch and enjoys simply being together.
One thing that has made a huge difference for Billy Ray is having another dog around. His foster has watched his confidence blossom alongside his canine foster brother, and it's clear that Billy Ray takes comfort from having a calm, friendly dog to follow. While we can't say another dog is an absolute requirement, we do believe he'd thrive in a home with a confident canine companion who can continue showing him the ropes and reminding him that life is pretty wonderful.
Speaking of wonderful... did we mention the water? Because Billy Ray is convinced every pool, puddle, creek, sprinkler, or hose exists solely for his entertainment. If your idea of a perfect afternoon includes watching a joyful dog bounce through the water with complete abandon, Billy Ray is more than happy to provide the show!
Billy Ray is still building confidence in a few areas, and we believe in being honest because the right family will see these things as opportunities rather than obstacles. Passing vehicles can make him a little nervous on walks, and while he's making excellent progress, he'll need adopters who continue helping him feel safe through patient encouragement and positive experiences. The beautiful thing about Billy Ray is how eager he is to keep growing and learning. Every week in foster care he has become more confident, more relaxed, and more comfortable with the routines of family life.
Underneath the remaining little bits of uncertainty is an incredibly sweet, playful young dog who simply wants to love
and be loved.
Billy Ray would be a wonderful match for a family looking for a loyal companion and a perfect +1 buddy for your current dog. If you have room in your home for a goofy water enthusiast and maybe another friendly dog to connect with, we think Billy Ray just might be your perfect addition.
