Comet #2 | 4-Month-Old German Shepherd Mix | Confident Explorer with Puppy Zooms

Comet is a 4-month-old German Shepherd mix weighing 18 pounds, with a striking black, tan, and white coat and a bold, adventurous spirit. He is playful, affectionate, and very confident for his age, happily exploring the world before coming in close for head rests and belly rubs.

He is making progress with housetraining but is still learning. He does not yet signal to go outside, though he will whine in his crate at night if he needs a potty break. He generally sleeps through the night or may need one quick outing. He came from the Ft. Morgan shelter as a stray and was initially accustomed to potty pads, so he is adjusting to a new routine.

Comet is working on crate training and settles after a brief protest. He has been left alone crated for short periods and does well. On leash, he pulls and sometimes chews the leash, and he may bark or lunge when first seeing other dogs. However, he relaxes once he approaches and has had positive interactions with dogs of all sizes. He has done well with children, though supervision is important due to typical puppy mouthiness and sharp teeth.

He has a high energy level and will need consistent exercise, structure, and training. He is very mouthy, grabs sleeves and shoes, and will get into anything without supervision. He loves toys, chew bones, and fetch, and is motivated by food, toys, and affection.

Comet’s ideal home is with someone who has the time and commitment to guide a smart, energetic working-breed puppy. With patience and positive reinforcement, he has all the potential to grow into a loyal and loving companion.

If you and the dog are a good match then we'll connect you with our dog's foster parents to chat more in-depth. If both you and the foster agree that the dog is a good fit then a meet and greet is scheduled. We require applicants' dogs to meet ours to ensure they get along. We'll ask you to read and sign our adoption agreement and pay the adoption fee to complete the adoption when it comes time. Our adoption fees help cover the costs of saving more lives! A home visit will be scheduled within one week of your new pet going home with you.

The adoption fee for this pet is $475 (includes a $50 refundable puppy training deposit). Our adoption fee covers the following:

Spay/neuter

Microchip

DAPP vaccinations as age-appropriate for the dog.

Rabies vaccinations as age-appropriate for the dog.

Adopters shall be responsible for all vaccinations after adoption.

Our adoption process is:

1. Fill out our Adoption Application online. We'll contact you within 48 hours to answer any questions you may have about the pet.

2. If the pet looks like a great match, we'll schedule a meet and greet and ask you to fill out our online Adoption Agreement if you'd like to proceed with adopting. Once you've completed the Adoption Agreement and pay the pet's Adoption Fee, you can arrange to pick up your new furry family member!
