Scamp is a two year old shepherd mix who is brand new to the rescue. He arrived feeling scared and unsure, and it was very clear that leaving his previous home was hard for him. Through no fault of his own, Scamp had to say goodbye to the people he loved, and he has been grieving that loss in his own quiet way. Even so, he has already shown us how strong and resilient he can be.
At first, Scamp was very slow to warm up, but he has already come a long way. He has not experienced much outside of his original home, so the world is full of new and sometimes overwhelming sights and sounds. Every day he takes brave little steps forward, and we are proud of how hard he is trying. As he settles in, we are beginning to see the gentle dog underneath the worry.
Scamp is house trained and doing very well with crate training. He sleeps best when his crate is in the same room as the people he trusts. If he is too far away, he may quietly cry or give a soft howl because he is still learning that he is safe. This will improve with time and reassurance as he builds confidence in his new routine.
Leash walking and basic commands are all brand new to Scamp. As he becomes more comfortable and continues to trust his foster family, he will begin learning the basics at his own pace. He is eager to connect with people, so we expect him to grow quickly with encouragement and patience.
Scamp handles grooming very well. He tolerates baths and brushing without fuss, which makes caring for him easy. He has not shown much interest in toys yet in his foster home, but we were told by his previous owners that he loves squeaky toys, especially squeaky pigs. We cannot wait to see if those favourites help bring out his playful side.
So far, Scamp has shown us a snuggly, calm, and thoughtful personality. He is gentle, quiet, and deeply affectionate once he feels comfortable. We know that as he continues to relax and trust his new environment, more of his true personality will shine through.
We are already in love with Scamp and feel lucky to be part of his journey. With patience, kindness, and a steady routine, he will blossom into an incredible companion. Scamp is a special dog, and we cannot wait to see the confident and happy version of him that is waiting just beneath the surface.
