TATER TOT

French Bulldog
🇨🇦
Toronto, Ontario
March 5th
male, medium, adult

DESCRIPTION

Weighing in at 12.5 KG | 27.5 pounds on March 4th, 7 year old Tater Tot is on a bit of a weight loss journey but an over-all healthy boy.

He arrived to Mattie's Place early February, from a backyard breeder who is closing their business down, so we've been working on intaking the remaining dogs in their care. Tater Tot was one of the studs. Many dogs of various breeds all lived in barn stalls on the farm.

Tater Tot does not have a lot of dog experience with Mattie's Place as his foster home is dog-free, but the breeder said he was great with female dogs and selective with males. Given the breeding situation and all these dogs living in a barn; I imagine with with females in heat and studs wanting to breed, it was likely chaotic with other male dogs. We have not seen any reason for concern with other dogs at this time but I won't have an opportunity to fully test him in and out of a home with various dogs so a no pet home is likely best or a female canine home. Meet & greets, in your home, are part of the adoption process.

On March 4th, Tater Tot underwent surgery for stenotic nares and elongated soft palate correction (nose and throat). He has a small corneal ulcer in the right eye, and dry eye in his left eye. The left eye will likely need medication for life but we'll see how he responds to his current eye medications.

There was distichia in both lower eyelids, these were extremely small and very fine hairs and the vet doesn't think the ulcer is due to that. If it does seem to pose a problem with the right eye due to the ulcer not healing, then I'll have him see an ophthalmologist at VEC Toronto and we may have to look at cryoepilation or another treatment option at the cost of Mattie's Place. This profile is being created the day after his surgeries and ulcer discovery so we'll have to see how that plays out over the coming weeks.

Tater Tot did have a lot of dried up keratin on his nose. This was removed and he will need proper nose lubrication and care for his nose (petroleum jelly or nose balm) on the top of the nose 2-3 times daily should it return but maintenance once per day.

Tater Tot LOVES LOVES LOVES people, so hoping to find an adopter that is home most often as he really just loves being with his people and given the challenging life he's had to date, I'd like him to be matched up in a home that fills his soul.

I wouldn't put him in a home with small kids, as I just don't know his tolerance to that vibe 24/7. Can he be in a home with visiting kids? Absolutely. He is in foster care with cats, but he'd need a dog savvy cat that can get out of the way when he decides it's playtime, for that dynamic to work.

Tater Tot is a really special guy. If you love a Frenchie, he just may be your guy!

FROM THE FOSTER:

Tater Tot is a very sweet boy. If you give him some pets and maybe a treat or two he will quickly become your best friend. He loves being with people but also has zero issue hanging out by himself.

He will let out a few barks and grunts when someone comes through the front door, once he realizes he already knows you or you give him a kind voice and a pet you’re his new best friend.

He has more interest in our cat than she is happy about. He often ignores her but when he decides he wants to play with her he will chase her around the house until she makes it clear she’s had enough.

I have been so pleasantly surprised by how well he “dogs” already. He loves running around in the backyard, walks great on a leash, sits by the back door and stares at us when he wants to go out, when it’s cold out he does his business and runs right back in.

He sleeps in his crate with not an ounce of a fuss.

He hasn’t quite figured out what dog toys are for but we all get so excited when he picks one up.

Overall, we only have wonderful things to say about this handsome boy.
