DESCRIPTION

Meet Murphy!

This handsome boy has so much love to give and is ready for his next chapter. Murphy just turned one year old (DOB: 01/22/2025) and weighs around 60 pounds. He is tall and lanky, and we do not anticipate him getting much bigger. He has been DNA tested and his results came back as 43% Doberman Pinscher, 20% Pit Bull–type breed, 20% Great Pyrenees, 9% Supermutt, and 8% German Shepherd — a truly unique mix that perfectly explains his athleticism, intelligence, and loyal nature.

We adopted Murphy out a few months ago after saving him from a shelter in Texas. He has been with his current family since September, and as much as they love and adore him, they have made the incredibly difficult decision to rehome him. Murphy is the sweetest boy and loves just about everyone and everything, but he has struggled specifically with one of the dogs in his household. He currently lives with two dogs and does completely fine with the female. However, he seems to be triggered by the senior male dog in the home. While he has never shown true aggression or broken skin, the tension has escalated to the point where the older dog has become fearful, and the overall environment has become uncomfortable for everyone involved.

We want to be very clear that Murphy has not shown issues with other dogs he has met. His family has gone above and beyond by consulting trainers, behaviorists, and their veterinarian. Despite their efforts, they recognize that it would be in Murphy’s best interest to find a home where he can fully relax and be his best self.

Murphy truly has a zest for life. He is a happy, sweet, active boy who is also amazingly cuddly. He loves his morning walks followed by a long, well-earned nap. He is very smart and highly food motivated, which makes him a joy to train. He knows sit, stay, and down, and is making great progress with heel, though recall and leash skills still need continued work. Because he is so intelligent, he can have a bit of a stubborn streak, but he is eager to learn and clearly proud when he gets things right.

Murphy would thrive in an active home where he can go for daily walks, hikes, or even runs. He loves exploring and sniffing his surroundings. He would likely excel in something like agility given how athletic and driven he is. That said, he also enjoys winding down on the couch and is an excellent cuddle companion and homework supervisor in the evenings.

He currently lives with an older child and has been kind and appropriate with the children he has met on walks as well as adults. Due to his size and enthusiasm, we recommend a home with children over 8 or 9, though slightly younger children who are respectful and comfortable around large, energetic dogs could be considered. Murphy would do best as either an only dog or with a female dog. He enjoys playtime but can sometimes be a bit overly enthusiastic, so a tolerant, playful companion would be the best match if there is another dog in the home.

Murphy absolutely loves food. He eats quickly and requires a slow feeder bowl. He should also be supervised with plush toys. While he has plenty of energy, once his morning exercise needs are met, he settles nicely and naps for long stretches. He is crate trained and does well in his crate. Because he still relies on the crate when unattended, a home where someone works from home or has a flexible schedule would be ideal.

Murphy will not do well in an apartment setting. We are strictly looking for a home with a yard, ideally fenced, and an active lifestyle that can keep him mentally and physically stimulated. He is currently located in Massachusetts, and a meet and greet can be arranged with an approved application. His current family will be involved in reviewing applications with us to ensure we find the absolute best placement for him.

We are very particular about where Murphy ends up and will be thoroughly reviewing applications. If you are interested in adopting him, please be as detailed as possible in your responses so we can fully understand the life you would provide.

Medical:
Murphy is neutered, up to date on vaccines, heartworm negative, and on monthly prevention. He is healthy, active, and ready to find the family that will give him the structure, adventure, and love he deserves.
