MEET Peaches -
Peaches Is a 7 year old, 10 lb. Dachshund. She is good with other dogs, kids and even the resident cat at her foster’s house! She’s potty trained and spayed. Peaches is looking for a new forever home following the death of her previous owner. Peaches is one precious girl. She has some anxiety with men, but easily managed with calm reassurance. She is an alert barker. She has a high prey drive, and will bark at and chase squirrels. This pup craves affection. Her happy place is in your lap. She will follow you around the house. Like many Doxies, she listens if she wants to and can be finicky about going outside in inclement weather.
Peaches is healing from ear infections. She has dermatitis and hair loss from a past flea infestation. The fleas are gone, but the dermatitis and hair loss will take time to resolve. She is on a monthly injection to ease the itching, along with medicated shampoo. She is on the thin side, and her new owner must have the means and willingness to continue her physical rehab. Peaches is an active girl, and would do well in a household with other dogs and/or older children. She does have separation anxiety, so a person who works from home or retired would be ideal. Having other dogs would help with her anxiety. This is a great companion dog looking for someone to love who will love her back.
Peaches will do best in a family with a stay at home parent (work from home or retired) and only older children (over age 12), who are familiar with the special needs of Dachshunds.
Like all Dachshunds, Peaches enjoys playing and warming their little bones in the sunshine, so along with regular walks around their neighborhood, Peaches needs a secure fenced yard to run around and explore safely. While small in stature, doxies are big on personality and don't generally do well in apartments, with all of the noises and traffic that come with multiple dwellings in a confined space. To best set up our doxies and their new families for success, Oregon Dachshund Rescue Inc., adopt to families who live in single family homes (or Duplexes) with secure fenced yards.
OUR CRITERIA (aka The Fine Print):
Based on 30 years of experience with rescue doxies, we have pretty strict criteria. Do you work from home/stay at home/work part time? Have a securely fenced yard? We do not place same gender dogs in a home unless they were raised together, and children need to be 12 or older (some exceptions IF the dog is a puppy or the child has been raised with a doxie). We prefer non-smokers and a home with no other small animals (ferrets, hamsters, etc). Cats are on a case by case basis depending on the dog. Remember, these are rescues; many were surrendered because of these issues.
All our dogs are vetted, including rabies, DHPP, Bordetella, Dewormer, and nails trimmed. They'll come with a basket of goodies, food, toys and a harness. The adoption fee is $495, sorry no exceptions, as this covers the cost to rescue them, vet them and take care of them while in our rescue. It also helps towards the care of other doxies that come with huge vet/dental bills or need extensive behavioral training.
