Meet Canyon!
Canyon is a tender-hearted little long haired dachshund who is just beginning to discover the world beyond kennel walls. He is 5 years old and weighs about 10-15 pounds. For the first five years of his life, he knew only life as a stud dog and never experienced what it meant to be part of a family. Everything about home life is new to him—but with each passing day in foster care, he’s slowly learning that safety, kindness, and love truly exist.
Canyon is extremely shy at first and will need a very patient, understanding home with no young children. When unsure, he may run and hide, but you can see how badly he wants connection. He is learning to enjoy gentle human touch, being picked up and held, and is now taking treats directly from hands. His crate is his safe space and comfort zone, and he sleeps peacefully there at night. He also enjoys his playpen area, where he can decompress and observe the world at his own pace. He comes running over to you once he warms up and truly loves the attention. He’s a sweet soul.
In foster care, Canyon is surrounded by other dogs and truly thrives with their presence. He gets along wonderfully with other dogs and even cats, and another confident canine companion would likely help boost his confidence as he learns how to be part of a family and a pack although it is not required as he’s truly learning to love people too. He’s learning to potty outside by following the other dogs and is doing well, and he’s also familiar with potty pads. With time, patience, and unconditional love, Canyon has all the potential to become an incredibly loyal and loving companion—he just needs someone willing to show him that life can be gentle and kind.
Canyon is neutered, up to date on vaccines, and will receive a health certificate prior to adoption.
