📌 Important Information
• All dogs are currently in foster care in Mexico 🇲🇽. They're listed in Oregon for adoption purposes as that's where our rescue is based.
• Dogs fly to Portland (PDX) once adoption is approved, arriving within 2–4 weeks. ✈️ This reduces stress for them and ensures safe travel.
💛 About The Meximutt Project (A Born Again Pit Bull Rescue initiative)

🐾 Meet ELISSA 🐾
• AGE: ~3 years old
• WEIGHT: ~20 lbs
• BREED(S): Chow Chow mix (our best guess since they’re rescues!)
• GOOD WITH KIDS? Yes, as long as they're taught to respect the dog’s belongings and boundaries.
• HOUSEBROKEN? Not 100% yet. As rescues that lived on the street or tile/outdoor surfaces, they'll need some time to adjust. Most of our dogs adapt within 1-2 weeks of consistent training.
Elissa was in an empty lot, alone and completely still. Not hurt, not visibly sick — just quiet in a way that felt like someone who had given up on being found. She didn't bark, didn't come closer. She just waited. Her foster Daniel brought her home, cleaned her up, and began what would become a year of slowly earning her trust.
Elissa isn't the dog who runs to the door and leaps into your arms. She's the one who watches you first, takes her time deciding, and then — when she's ready — comes to you with this calm, deliberate tenderness that means so much more for the wait.
"When she starts to trust, she changes completely," Daniel says. "She becomes affectionate, noble. She approaches softly, like she just wants to feel safe."
A year later, she does feel safe. She plays with the other dog in the house, chews happily on her bones, gets along beautifully with cats and kids. She still carries a little shyness with new people — it's part of who she is — but it's not fear anymore. It's just Elissa taking you seriously before she lets you in.
She needs an adopter who understands that the best things take a little time. Someone who won't rush her, who'll sit nearby and let her make the first move — and who'll recognize what it means when she finally does.
If you have that kind of patience, Elissa has a whole lot of love saved up for you.
