Meet Stella
This tiny fighter has one big story to tell. Stella is a 3-month-old Chihuahua who was found on the side of the road, weighing just 1 lb and struggling to breathe. Our vet wasn't sure she'd make it — but Stella had other plans. With the support of an oxygen tank, a concentrator generously loaned by our community, and a whole lot of heart, she pulled through. She now tips the scales at a mighty 3 lbs and hasn't slowed down since.
Stella comes spayed, microchipped, and current on vaccines (she'll need two more rounds of DAPPV to complete her series).
She's a social, playful little girl who gets along well with other dogs and children. Because of her petite size, she should always be supervised around kids — not out of temperament, but out of pure fragility. She loves chasing balls and playing with toys, and she'll keep you entertained. Fair warning: she's got a stubborn streak when it comes to potty training, so a home with small-dog housetraining experience is a must.
A note on the adoption process: Stella has captured a lot of hearts during her recovery, and we want to make sure her placement is handled fairly. All applications will be reviewed by our board. We don't expect the application window to stay open long. Please know that every decision is made with love — being passed over is never a reflection on the quality of your home. We simply have to make one very hard choice among many wonderful families. The more detail you share in your application, the better we can advocate for the right match. Our dogs must be on monthly or annual heartworm prevention (injection). We will verify with your vet that other animals in the home have been on this prevention prior to making an adoption decision. Heartworms kill dogs. It's our duty to ensure responsible veterinary practices.
