Bold spirit. Busy paws. Loyal heart.
I’m a young, energetic girl with a lot of curiosity, confidence, and opinions. Some say I’m two years old, but I definitely still have strong puppy energy — the playful, mischievous, keep-you-on-your-toes kind. If you’re looking for a calm couch potato… that’s not me (at least not yet). But if you enjoy training, structure, and watching a dog grow into her best self, I have so much potential to offer.
I’m very loving with my people and can be incredibly affectionate when I finally settle — especially cuddled up on the couch. I bond closely and can be protective of my humans, which shows up as barking when I feel unsure about someone approaching. With patience and proper introductions, I warm up quickly and have shown I can be comfortable with men too. I’d do best in a home with adults or older kids who understand dog boundaries, as I can be mouthy and enthusiastic when excited.
I’m high-energy and very busy. I love toys (sometimes a little too much — stuffies beware), chasing birds and squirrels in the yard, and being involved in whatever my person is doing. I’m food motivated, clever, and eager, but I need guidance and consistency to help channel all this energy in the right direction.
Training is a work in progress. I’m learning house routines, responding well to recall from the yard, and improving with structure. Leash walking is currently a challenge — I’m strong, pull hard, and get excited — so I’ll need a confident handler who’s comfortable working on leash skills with me. With more outdoor time, warmer weather, and training, I’m expected to improve significantly.
I live with another dog and enjoy having company, but I do guard food and need clear boundaries around resources. A dog sibling would need to be confident, patient, and not easily pushed around. I’d also do best in a house with a securely fenced yard — apartment or condo life wouldn’t be the right fit for me.
At night, I sleep quietly in a dog bed in the kitchen and do well with routine. I’m good in the car, not fearful of the vet, and while I’m curious about everything, I can be destructive when bored — so enrichment, supervision, and exercise are essential for me.
My ideal forever home is an active, experienced, dog-savvy household with time, patience, and a sense of humor. Someone who understands young, energetic dogs and is excited to invest in training, structure, and outdoor activity will get the very best out of me. I truly believe that with the right guidance, I’ll grow into a loyal, fun, and deeply loving companion.
If you’re ready for a project dog with a big heart and even bigger potential…
I’m Merida, and I’m waiting for someone who sees what I can become.
Merida was born approximately November 2023 and is a small dog.
