Chihuahua and Mixed Breed Dogs Available for Adoption in Santa Cruz, California

Meet Yuzu, the chihuahua mix. Yuzu came in with her two citrusy themed pals (Clementine and Pomelo) as strays. Her two friends have since been adopted. All three were fairly shy and unsure upon arrival to the Shelter. With time and patience, Yuzu has really blossomed! Yuzu is hanging out in a foster home so we can learn more about her. Her foster reports: This girl is nothing but sweetness. She wants to be right there, cuddled in your lap at every moment, but is also playful and easy to walk. We’ve had no accidents so far and she’s getting along just fine with the cat. In fact, I haven’t even heard her bark yet. She also slept through the night in a crate and seemed to relish the coziness. She’s been very comfortable with my daughter and her friends as well, just soaking up all the love. The Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter Foundation is now offering “Pawsitivity Bucks” with every dog adoption. This $200 training voucher is a way for newly adopted canines and their guardians to connect with local positive reinforcement based behavior consultants and get their relationship started off on the right paw! Please note: Our Santa Cruz location’s Shelter hours are 11-6pm, 7 days a week! Although clients can walk through and see any animals in their kennels during open hours, we end “meet and greets” (aka meeting an animal out of the kennel) at 4:30pm every day. If you’d like to meet an animal out of the kennel, please arrive before 4:00pm to allow for time to discuss individual animals and meet them.
