Tomato is a 2–3 year old, 11 lb Chiweenie who has already proven herself to be one devoted little mama. Rescued from the shelter with her five nursing puppies, she spent the past two months raising her adorable brood. Now that her babies are eight weeks old and ready to head off to their own homes, it’s finally Tomato’s turn to be the one who gets pampered, doted on, and treated like the star of the show.

Tomato has settled beautifully into her foster home and has shown herself to be a very affectionate, people-oriented little dog. From the moment she arrived, she was eager to connect with her foster. She enjoys climbing onto a lap for some cuddle time, but she’s equally happy lounging nearby on the sofa or curling up on a cozy dog bed where she can keep an eye on everything going on around her. She’s also a generous giver of kisses and often pops up to gently smooch her foster’s face just to remind you how happy she is to be close.

Like many dogs who have just finished raising a litter, Tomato started off a bit on the quiet side while she focused on caring for her puppies. As the weeks passed and her babies became more independent, her playful personality really began to shine. These days she’s known to burst into joyful zoomies around the yard and happily engage in playtime with her pups. She even has a funny little move where she gently grabs her foster’s hand in her mouth as if to say, “Excuse me, I believe more pets are required immediately.”

Tomato also has a charmingly opinionated side when it comes to attention. If she notices someone lavishing affection on one of the puppies, she’s quick to hop up onto the nearest lap to make sure she gets her fair share. It’s less jealousy and more a reminder that she’s still a baby herself at heart.

Her daily routine is relaxed and easygoing. She grazes on kibble during the day and enjoys a dinner of kibble mixed with wet food around 8 p.m. Much of the day is spent lounging on the sofa or relaxing on a dog bed, occasionally checking in on her puppies in their pen. She goes outside several times a day to potty and stretch her legs, and at night she’s perfectly content sleeping on the sofa.

Tomato is house-trained and does an excellent job using potty pads if her foster isn’t immediately available to let her outside. She has good house manners overall. Early on she attempted a little digging when first exploring the yard with her puppies, but that behavior disappeared quickly. She does sometimes bark at unfamiliar sounds—things like appliances running for the first time, thunder during a storm, or outside noises such as cars and distant dogs—but this is simply her way of announcing that she has noticed something new in her environment.

One of Tomato’s funniest habits is her love of high vantage points. She seems to enjoy supervising the household from above. On one memorable occasion, she climbed onto the backrest of the couch behind her foster, curled up there like a tiny sentinel, and rested her head comfortably on her foster’s shoulder while surveying the room.

Another favorite moment was the first time she and her puppies all went into the yard together. Tomato tore happily back and forth across the grass while the puppies bounced after her like a pack of tiny followers. When she would turn around, she’d sometimes leap right over them as they scrambled to keep up, clearly thrilled to finally be playing instead of just parenting.

What makes Tomato especially special is the balance she strikes between sweetness and spirit. She’s affectionate without being clingy, playful without being overly energetic, and confident enough to make herself heard when she wants attention. After doing such an incredible job raising her little family, she’s more than ready for a home where she can relax, play, cuddle, and simply enjoy being someone’s beloved companion.

In short, Tomato has done the hard work of motherhood. Now she’s ready for the easy part: being adored.
