Get ready to brush up on your French! Meet Machoire (technically Mâchoire), a 1.5-year-old Chihuahua/Dachshund mix, weighing 7 pounds (as of 3/5/26). Machoire's name (pronounced "Mah-shwahr") is a circus-themed name for acrobats that use their mouths to bite rings during performances. And boy, did this girl escape the circus! Rescued from a complex hoarding situation alongside 20 other dogs and several cats, this "teeny lady" hopes she can find her next loving fur-ever home!
Now that she's safe at her foster's, Machoire has recently discovered the joy of having room to run, the soft feel of grass beneath her paws, the warmth of the sun on her back, and a refreshing Piña Colada in her paw (frozen not shaken).
Because the big, wide world can still feel a bit overwhelming, her foster has been helping Machoire adjust with yummy snacks and gentle encouragement. She is already a star at practicing her "recall" (coming when called), proving just how much she wants to soak up all the education she can get without the crippling debt.
Machoire is looking for a patient, thoughtful family who understands that "happily ever after" takes a little bit of time and a lot of grace. Her perfect match includes:
- A Canine Companion: Having lived her entire life with other animals, Machoire is most comfortable around other dogs, so a resident pup that'll show her the ropes is ideal. She's had experience with cats in the past, she can be a little afraid of new ones. Definitely something to consider if you have a resident cat. No offense, kitties!
- A Gentle Environment: She would thrive in a home with a calm atmosphere as she can be fearful in new situations. If there are children, they should be older and possess a gentle, respectful nature. No offense, toddlers!
- Balance & Patience: She is a "wiggly and happy" girl who is learning how to be a family dog, so she hopes her people will offer cuddles when she seeks them out, but also respect her need for space as she processes new experiences. We love a girl who understands her boundaries!
- Positive Guidance: Machoire deserves a family committed to patient, reward-based training to help her continue building her confidence. So far, she's been working on crate training, putting on collars, harness and recall, as well as potty training where she'll use puppy pads. For your help, she'll treat you to your favorite ice cream from Cold Stone. Nothing says "thank you" like sugary goodness!
Machoire is a resilient survivor who has finally been given a voice. She is ready to trade her crowded past for a future filled with soft beds, sunny spots, and a family of her very own.
Make your home this girl's paradise! Adopt Machoire today!
