Chihuahua and Beagle Dogs Available for Adoption

Because all of our dogs live in foster homes, meet-and-greets are scheduled only after a completed application is received. Adoptions must be within a reasonable distance of Wilmington, DE so our volunteers can conduct an in-person home visit.

Meet Hilo (HE-low)

Hilo is a 13-year-old, 27-lb Chihuahua/Beagle mix looking for a calm home to spend his golden years. Don’t let his age fool you — this little guy still loves life, especially walks, toys, treats, and car rides.

Hilo is fully housebroken, walks nicely on leash, and is a classic couch-potato companion who enjoys relaxing nearby. He likes to stay close to his person and will happily follow you from room to room like a loyal shadow, but he’s not overly clingy and prefers lounging beside you rather than being a lap dog.

One of Hilo’s cutest habits is getting excited for walks — he’ll actually try to grab his jacket out of your hand because he can’t wait to go outside.

He does well with other dogs, has minimal barking, and would do best with older kids due to his age. Hilo would thrive in a home with someone who is retired or works from home, where he can enjoy companionship, daily walks, and plenty of cozy nap spots.

Hilo came to rescue as an owner surrender and was a bit overweight at intake, but he’s been doing great in foster care. His favorite things include toys, food, treats, walks, and car rides. Loud noises and storms aren’t his favorite, but a warm spot near the fireplace and a comfy bed make everything better.
