DESCRIPTION

Hi, my name is Freckles and I am from Arkansas!

Freckles is a sweet soul who has yet to meet a human she doesn't want to be friends with! She's a cuddle bug who would love nothing more than to be right next to you with her head on your lap as you read/work/etc. She's gentle on the leash, extremely food motivated, and always looking for praise. Freckles is house trained and has not needed to be kenneled. She is good alone for ~4-5 hours at home. I've yet to hear her bark! She gets bursts of energy where she wants to play hard, but also understands when it's time to stop. Truly she's a Gem! She is slightly nervous around other dogs and slow to warm up, but with slow intros makes fast friends. She has not been kid tested, but I suspect she would do well with older, dog savvy kids.

Freckles is currently healing from a back left leg injury. We aren't quite sure what happened prior to her coming to Minnesota. Her wound has healed nicely but she's still dealing with a toe fracture so is on activity restriction. She needs a family who can give her lots of loves and a quiet spot to rest through the healing process. I expect that once she's healed she'll be a great activity companion!

From the Vet:
Freckles was heartworm positive and received the full 3 injection treatment protocol prior to her arrival to TBB. TBB recommends rechecking a heartworm test 9 months post treatment (for Freckles this would be in October of 2026) as well as keeping up with monthly heartworm prevention meds until it is time for her to be retested. She does not need any restrictions to her activity at this stage.

During Freckles' time in rescue we also have been monitoring a previous injury (nature of injury unknown; but she has a large scar indicating possible hit-by-car, trap or other trauma) that caused a fracture of an rear toe. She is not able to bare weight properly on the toe and our Medical Team has elected it will be best for Freckles to have a surgery to have the toe amputated. She will need monitoring for about 2-4 weeks post op to ensure good healing of the surgery site, but due to the toe being one on the inside of the foot, the vet is confident that surgery will be best for Freckles and she will learn (with time) how to walk normally on 3 toes.

Her future adopter will want to make sure to monitor her use of the leg overall, keep her at a lean weight and consult with a primary care vet going forward to manage any pain or arthritis that may develop as she ages.
