Rufus is an approximately 2-year-old, 70–80 lb lovable goofball who is ready to find the family that will finally show him what forever feels like.
Rufus was dumped about six months ago, and while we don’t know much about his life before then, we do know that he has made so much progress. He can be timid in unfamiliar situations and is especially nervous if someone raises their hands quickly, but once Rufus realizes he is safe, his sweet and playful personality begins to shine.
This big guy loves to run, play, and get the zoomies! Because of his size and energy, we think he would do best in a home with older children who won’t accidentally get knocked over during one of his enthusiastic moments.
Rufus is still learning about the world. He is getting better with leash walking every day, although he can still be unsure when passing unfamiliar dogs. He generally prefers to avoid other dogs rather than engage with them, so any introductions to potential canine siblings would need to be handled thoughtfully and slowly.
A few things to know about Rufus: he’s not exactly a fan of baths, but he’ll tolerate one when necessary; nail trims are a definite no thank you for now; and despite being a big boy, he can turn into quite the baby when he gets scared.
What Rufus really needs is a patient, loving family willing to continue building his confidence and showing him that people can be kind. Underneath that cautious exterior is a silly, affectionate dog who just needs someone willing to give him the chance he deserves.
Rufus has already been left behind once. We’d love for his next home to be the one that never leaves him behind again.
