Meet Dottie!
Dottie is an 8-month-old hound/boxer mix with the sweetest red-chestnut coat and an even sweeter soul. Currently around 45 lbs, she’s still very much a puppy at heart—but one who would much rather be curled up on your lap than bouncing off the walls.
Dottie’s journey began when she was found on December 18, 2025, along the Nelsonville 33 Bypass. She first landed safely with a foster through Friends of Athens Dog Shelter before making her way to Dogworks, where she’s been showing everyone just how special she is.
This girl is all about her people. Dottie follows her humans from room to room and is happiest when she’s laying next to—or right on—someone on the couch. She’s affectionate, gentle, and incredibly tuned in to what’s going on around her. If something startles her (like sudden or loud noises), she’ll quickly seek reassurance from her person and is comforted easily with a little love.
Dottie would thrive in a home with a fenced yard (standard fencing is perfect), as she can be tempted to bolt out an open door despite her strong desire to stay close to her people. She’s crate trained, potty trained, walks well on a leash, and responds nicely to positive reinforcement and redirection. She knows basic cues like sit and off and is eager to please.
She does well with other dogs and has a refreshingly respectful demeanor for such a young pup—she gives other dogs space, doesn’t bother them while eating or sleeping, and generally has great manners. She’s lived with cats (though they make her a bit unsure) and does well with children of all ages. In fact, she loves them.
While Dottie isn’t very playful and prefers snuggling over games, she is very food-motivated and tends to eat quickly—something her future family should be mindful of. Overall, she’s a quiet, loving, easygoing pup who would make an excellent companion and even a great first-time dog.
If you’re looking for a loyal shadow, a gentle soul, and a couch-snuggle expert, Dottie might just be your perfect match.
She is spayed, up-to-date on vaccinations, microchipped, and is on monthly flea/tick and heartworm prevention.
Her adoption fee is $400.
