What we know: 4-month-old spayed female transferred from Espanola Humane. Intake type listed as Seized/Custody/Stray. Dog's two brothers were transferred prior while she remained at the sending facility to complete treatment for Parvovirus. Venus has since completed treatment, was medically cleared, and deemed healthy for transport.
From the foster: Are you looking for your dog's best friend? Venus is out of this world. She loves other dogs and she is so playful and trusting of them. Humans, she needs a little more time with, but her affection with dogs is beautiful.
Her first few days, she was nervous letting me get close enough to clip on a leash for walks, but a little lick on the nose from her foster brother bought her outside, nervous but willing for me to clip on the leash. It was so sweet and beautiful. Dogs are her safe place. She loves to chase and wrestle, and loves going on walks.
Venus is a smart girl that learned her nighttime bed in her pen by night 2. She sleeps quietly through the night in her crate or pen in your bedroom. She will go in on her own with the toss in of a treat but needs her space to enter then has no problem with you closing the pen. She is also kennel trained. Toss in a frozen peanut butter Kong and she'll go in. While she is mostly quiet, she does have bouts of barking in kennel.
Venus is potty trained, doggie door trained, and will do her business outside, even on a small piece of turf, but has yet to do her business on leash. We're hoping when she gets more comfortable she'll go.
Venus will follow your dog's lead and sneak in for good scratches and pets from you when your dog does. Sometimes she's so excited, she forgets to be nervous. Venus loads well into the car watching your dogs get excited about going for a ride. In the front seat, she does sometimes curl up in the floorboards but is starting to come up and watch the world go by.
Venus is a very pretty and independent puppy that loves patrolling the yard. She is on the lookout for squirrels she can chase. She is excited when the neighbor's dogs are out. She will prance along the fence in the hopes of playing with them. She also likes playing in the sprinklers when they are on.
Venus is very gentle with the toys she has and likes to have them near her favorite spot at the front of the home while she watches the street. She'll also collect them on her outside dog bed as she sunbathes outside. She enjoys chewing on Himalayan milk chews, cow hooves and kneecaps.
She will need your patience as you develop your bond, she prefers her four legged companions over the two legged variety.
She is working on her leash skills and will follow your dog's lead on where to go. She's shown interest in bunnies and squirrels but only interest and can continue to behave with training. Alone, she prefers to stop and watch the other dogs and people walking than heading in any specific direction.
Venus is a sweetheart that responds well to corrections. She is an occasional counter surfer and shoe thief but is doing great with rules. She had shown no resource guarding and eats well with her foster brother and sister.
Loving on Venus is getting better and better everyday. On day 5, she slept at my feet while I worked then snuggled up on the couch with me for belly rubs and muzzle scratches. Day 6, she gave sweet face kisses that melted my heart. Day 8, she pawed at me for affection after I had been away for a bit. She wanted deep neck scratches that she leaned into. Day 9, she was so overjoyed when I came to let her out at lunch that she covered my face in dozens and dozens of little kisses. She's such a happy dog. Day 9, a completely different dog than Day 1 when she wouldn't let me get close enough to put a leash on. A beautiful transformation in a matter of days. She is pure sweetness and comes in ready and willing to play and trust your furry babies... and eventually you too. Come bring her home to be your dog's best friend and win over your heart.
