Hi there! I'm King and I'm a 1 year old male Black Mouth Cur currently living at the Santa Maria Campus, eager for a new home!

King came to the shelter through no fault of his own after his previous owner fell on difficult times and could no longer care for him. Despite experiencing a lot of change, King has remained a loyal, affectionate companion who is ready to find the stability and love of a forever home. This handsome young pup already has a great foundation. He's crate trained, knows "sit," rides well in the car, and hops in and out of vehicles like a pro. On outings, King has calmly walked past children, other dogs, and busy environments, showing that he's capable of being a wonderful adventure buddy. While he can get a little enthusiastic on leash when excited, he's eager to learn and will go home with free basic manners classes to help him continue building his skills.

Belly rubs, quality time with his favorite people, and plenty of cuddles are some of his favorite things. When it comes to other dogs, King tends to appreciate companions who are respectful and match his play style, like the gentleman he is. He enjoys socializing and playing, especially with dogs who understand that not every interaction needs to be full-speed. He's done well adjusting his play style to different dogs and has done well. King would thrive with a family who appreciates large breeds, understands that trust can take a little time to build, and is looking for a loyal companion to share life's adventures. Adoptions are open 12pm-4:30pm every day, except Wednesdays, and no appointment is needed. Like all SBH animals, when I am adopted, I will have been spayed or neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped. Adoptions also include a certificate for a complimentary post-adoption veterinary exam from a local clinic and our partners at Hills Science Diet will provide a supply of food for my first few days at home.
