DESCRIPTION
Reece is a 3 month old Labrador mix puppy who currently weighs about 22 pounds. He came to BENCHS as an unclaimed county stray and appears to have had a previous injury to his right hind leg before arriving at the shelter.
Our veterinarian examined Reece and believes the injury likely involved the bones or soft tissue in his foot that has already healed or is healing. He does not appear to be in pain and is able to walk on the leg, but there is some swelling and reduced movement in the toes. At this point, the recommendation is simply to monitor the leg as he grows.
Long term, there may be a slightly increased risk for arthritis or discomfort in that leg later in life, so keeping Reece at a lean and healthy weight will be important for his joint health.
Like many young Labs, Reece is a friendly, affectionate puppy who loves people and enjoys playtime. Labrador mixes are known for their intelligence, food motivation, and eagerness to please, which can make training a rewarding experience. Reece is a sweet, lovable puppy who is ready to continue learning, playing, and becoming a loyal companion for his future family.
