Meet Stella!

Stella is a 2-month old Miniature Poodle/Bernese Mountain Dog mix who came into us as a surrender from a commercial breeding facility (aka Puppy Mill) in Lancaster County.

She is blind in one eye due to a bite that happened when she was with the breeder. The eye cannot be repaired, but is currently being treated to heal the bite. She may need the eye removed in the future, but the ophthalmologist believes it is best to leave it at this point in time!

Puppy mills are producing puppies at alarmingly high rates. It is easier for them to give up puppies who are not easily sold/don't sell as they usually have multiple litters of puppies for sale at the same time.

Adopting a puppy mill survivor is life-changing-for you and them. For these dogs, everything is new and often overwhelming: people, houses, stairs, leashes, food bowls, collars, toys, TVs, ovens, doorways, pavement...the list goes on.

They need adopters who can move slowly, be patient, keep expectations reasonable, and provide the understanding and tools they need to grow into happy, confident companions. Patience, positive reinforcement, and understanding are key!

With the right guidance, puppy mill survivors can blossom into well-socialized, joyful dog- so our goal is always to ensure every adopter is fully prepared to give them the life and environment they need to truly thrive!

Stella is a sweet but shy puppy who will require a family up to the task of providing her the ample physical/mental exercise and training that all puppies require. Stella is blind in one eye but it doesn't slow her down at all! Puppies require a family who can continue their basic training and socialization skills to grow into confident and happy adult dogs!
