Louie is a 4 year-old beagle looking for his forever home. He is crate-trained and working on house training. He is good with cats, other dogs and with kids. Louie is spayed/neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, and ready to become part of your family.
Here’s Louie!!! This moderately active beagle boy likes walks, stuffie dog toys and hard chewies. He does well and likes riding in the car, meeting new people, small children and playing with other dogs. He is crate trained and spends time in his crate when left alone in the home - keeping the crate clean and dry. Louie absolutely loves a good cuddle session and follows his humans all around his foster home until they sit and he jumps right up by their side.
Louie is an amazing beagle boy!! He is funny, cuddly, playful and looks to his human companions for love, belly rubs and affection. Like other beagles, Louie has shown an interest in investigating new smells. While he is doing OK with walking on lead, recent snow storms have held him back on perfecting this skill. At this point, he has not eliminated on lead but will in his yard. His adoptive family will need to finish this training. He is starting to understand commands and is very eager to please. He totally enjoys his time exploring his fenced in yard and comes in when called. Above all, his very favorite activity is being close to you while you pet, brush or just chill out in his favorite chair and enjoy TV. He follows his foster family members from room to room and when he’s tired, he goes into his crate by himself and enjoys a nice nap. While his foster parents describe him as a perfect angel, he has shown some interest in chewing inappropriate things. Shoes, remotes, coins and any small object that will feel good in a beagles mouth will need to be carefully put out of his reach.
Louie seems to be a very adaptable and should do well in most homes environments. An apartment, condo or free standing home with a fenced in area that will allow him to run, explore or bask in the sunshine could be a perfect place to his forever home. An additional dog and/or older child would also work out fine for this sweet little guy. You may not know it, but you might have a BEAGLE to thank for your medicines! Beagles are used for safety testing of human and veterinary medicines for the same reasons that they make good pets; they're small and gentle-natured. Where does Happy Paws Rescue come into the picture? On a regular basis, research facilities have beagles that they release to us. It gives us and you a chance to give back to these sweet dogs that have contributed to the advancement of science. Please email us if you're ready to be a giant hero in the eyes of a little dog!
Thinking about adopting me? Here’s how:
1. Fill out an application found at www.happypawsrescue.org under the *ADOPT* tab.
2. Please allow 5-7 business days for us to review and respond to your application.
3. Approved applicants will be invited to come meet me at a scheduled meet and greet or adoption event.
4. If both you and the rescue agree that the dog you meet is a good fit for your home, you will fill out an adoption contract and exchange a small adoption fee. Your dog can go home the day of the Meet & Greet.
5. We generally adopt to families within a 90 mile radius of our home base in Piscataway, NJ but may consider farther distances in the tri-state region if volunteers are available. If you live beyond our geographical boundaries, we hope you will contact rescue organizations closer to your home.
