Basset Hound Dogs Available for Adoption

ROSCOE

Basset Hound
March 2nd
male, medium, senior

DESCRIPTION

🐶 Basics
• Roscoe
• Age / Size: 8 years old, ~ 40lbs
• Rescued in Texas, surrendered by previous owner after they were too busy

💛 Personality Snapshot
• Describe in 3–5 words: happy, snuggly, explorer
• Energy level (Low / Moderate / High): low to moderate
• More people‑oriented or independent? Good balance – loves people and independent sniffy walks
• How do they handle new situations? Pretty stoic in most cases, interested in learning

🐕 Social & Home Life
• How are they with people (adults/kids/new people)? Likes to calmly meet new people, can be afraid and back away from overzealous people
• How are they with other dogs? Gentle and friendly
• Cats or other animals (if known)? Unknown

🎓 Training & Manners
• Potty trained? Pees and poops very quickly outside.
• Crate trained? Uknown
• Leash skills: Great walker! He prefers to stop and sniff for a while but keeps moving well with some encouragement.
• Commands known (if any): “Come on Roscoe!” To keep moving on walks. Working on “sit”. Very polite regardless of command knowledge. Food motivated so his new people can use treats to help him learn more.

🌞 Daily Life
• Typical day with you: We wake up around 7:30 and he likes to go outside right away then eat breakfast. He is loves food and is not picky! He goes out to potty in the yard a few times during the day and likes at least one long sniff walk in the evening. He eats dinner around 6pm. I work from home and he likes lots of snuggles throughout the day. Shares the space with another small dog. They get along but don’t interact a lot.
• Exercise needs: Needs some long walks, but not running or vigorous playing.
• Favorite activities or toys: sniffing, eating, and cuddling! Hasn’t been interested in toys.

🌱 Growth Areas
• Anything they’re still working on? Working on walking down stairs – he’s gotten pretty good at climbing up!
• What helps them succeed? Treats, ear pets, and encouraging words

🏡 Ideal Home
• Only dog / With dog / Either: Either
• Good fit for apartment living? Yes, wonderful. He would love a ground floor unit, elevator, or a strong person to carry him down the steps while he’s still learning stairs. He has a long body and little legs so they are not ergonomic for him.
• Best type of household (active, moderate, calm): calm to moderate
• What kind of adopter would be the best match? He could fit in with a wide variety of household types, but he would like at least one person to be his close sidekick! He enjoys company and is a good companion for exploring the neighborhood.

💙 Foster Note
He lays his head on me in a very sweet way and does adorable happy hops when it’s time for a meal or a walk. He is observant and wants to make his person happy. He is looking for a best friend.

ABOUT: BASSET HOUND DOG BREED

The Basset Hound is a unique and recognizable breed known for its long body, droopy ears, and soulful eyes. Originating from France, they were originally bred for hunting small game like rabbits due to their keen sense of smell and sturdy build. Despite their laid back and affectionate nature, Basset Hounds are also persistent and independent thinkers, which can make training a bit challenging. With their low energy levels and love for lounging, they make wonderful companion dogs for families seeking a loyal and easygoing pet.
