MAGGIE
Basset Hound, Australian Cattle Dog Blue Heeler
🇺🇸
Weatherford, Texas
February 20th
female, medium, senior
DESCRIPTION
Maggie is a 40 lb, spayed female, approx. 9 years old basset hound/blue heeler mix.
We only know about her last 4.5 years of her history. She ended up in the shelter with her 11 puppies, having been taken from an abusive situation. She and her puppies were fostered by a geat family. The family thought they might keep Maggie, but after all the puppies were adopted, Maggie started showing signs of anxiety. We moved Maggie to another foster home a year ago. It turns out that busy farm life coupled with chickens, goats, 2 active, boisterous children, and 3 large dogs was not for her. Her anxiety just seemed to inreae with time. She was anxious and fearful,, but never showed any aggression.
For the last year, Maggie has been in a quieter home, with only smaller dogs, and has blossomed.
She has never had ann accident in the house, at either foster home. Where she used to whine a lot, that has decreased to mostly whimpering, and only now and then,. We can brush and bathe her now; we have a groomer that comes to the house and she will let him trim her nails. And we have been able to put a harness and leash on her get her in the car and take her to the vet and Petsmart with npo issues.
Maggie has the sweetest personality and LOVES people, which is amazing considering she was abused. All she wants is to be near her human.
Maggie would do best in a quiet home, with perhaps one dog (not yappy or barky) or a cat (she loves cats), probably because they are mostly quiet) Loud noises and sudden movement startle her easily.
Magi=gie is a wonderful, sweet dog, and will make a great companion for you. Come meet her…. You will fall I love.

ABOUT: AUSTRALIAN CATTLE DOG BLUE HEELER DOG BREED
The Australian Cattle Dog, also known as the Blue Heeler, is a hardworking and intelligent breed originally developed in Australia for herding cattle. Renowned for their endurance and agility, these medium sized dogs have a striking blue or red speckled coat and alert, curious expression. With a strong herding instinct and boundless energy, they require mental stimulation and physical activity to thrive. Blue Heelers are loyal, protective, and make excellent companions for active individuals or families willing to provide the engagement and exercise they need.
The Basset Hound is a unique and recognizable breed known for its long body, droopy ears, and soulful eyes. Originating from France, they were originally bred for hunting small game like rabbits due to their keen sense of smell and sturdy build. Despite their laid back and affectionate nature, Basset Hounds are also persistent and independent thinkers, which can make training a bit challenging. With their low energy levels and love for lounging, they make wonderful companion dogs for families seeking a loyal and easygoing pet.
