Basenji Dogs Available for Adoption

Whiskey is a beautiful 4½-year-old Basenji mix with the perfect blend of brains, beauty, and personality. She has a medium energy level — happy to head out for adventures, but just as content to be a couch potato. This smart girl is potty trained and already knows several commands including sit, lay down, and spin. She’s very food motivated, which makes continued training both fun and rewarding! Whiskey gets along well with other dogs, cats, and has experience being around children. Whiskey can be a little shy when meeting new people, but once she feels comfortable, her playful and curious personality shines. True to her Basenji roots, she doesn’t bark much — making her a wonderfully peaceful companion. A securely fenced yard is required so she can safely enjoy outdoor time and stretch her legs. Whiskey's adoption fee is $125 and includes first vaccinations, worming, microchip, and sterilization. We have a dog park to check compatibility with possible sibling dogs. Please fill out an adoption application at HeberSpringsHumaneSociety.com and a volunteer will contact you 2-3 days. The adoption application is NOT on Petfinder and must be completed on the Heber Springs Humane Society website.

The Basenji is a small hunting dog known for its unique traits, including a highly distinctive yodel like sound instead of a typical bark, and the inability to bark like other dogs. Originating from Africa, these intelligent and curious dogs are independent, agile, and alert, making them excellent companions for active individuals or families with experience handling their assertive nature. Recognized for their clean habits and cat like grooming behavior, basenjis require regular exercise and mental stimulation to thrive in a loving home environment.
