Ronin is being fostered in Waterford MI
Introducing Ronin! This handsome blue-eyed, 6 six year old, male Aussie mix weighs in at 60lbs. Ronin came into MASR foster having never been vetted and Heartworm positive after his family's eviction from a property they were renting. His Family of 6 years abandoned him and he found himself on an outdoor adventurous excursion in December in Missouri with the other family dog...eventually landing them both at an overcrowded shelter. Having finished his HW treatment and his recent tests coming back negative, Ronin has just one more check up in early May to confirm he is still heartworm free.
Ronin is full of life and ready to start anew with a forever home and family. As you stare into his amazing blue eyes, you can see the the resilient and loving soul that he is. Ronin is goofy and silly, as well as talkative. His Scooby Doo talk has earned him the nickname RoRo by his foster mom. Despite all he has been through though, he is ready to be your next adventure partner and snuggle buddy! He is super affectionate and just a total sweetheart!
Ronin loves to play with all kinds of toys and balls, and gets along well with all other dogs. He would probably love another canine family member to run and play with, as he has spent his entire life living with other dogs. He is not a destroyer of toys and carries his "babies" around the house gently, even trying to take them outside with him. He is initially hesitant when greeting new faces but especially fond of humans and the the treats he knows you can provide! He actively seeks the attention and affection of his foster mom and loves to cuddle and give kisses. To be clear, If you are not interested in a 60lb lap dog and doggy kisses, Ronin may not be the right fit for your home. He will quickly develop into a super loyal companion or family dog with the right humans to guide him and appreciate all he has to offer.
Although his foster has seen a slight prey drive in Ronin with squirrels and birds, Ronin showed little interest when exposed to cats. Slow intros would be best and his foster believes he would be more interested in playing with feline friends than harming them. Ronin has been kid tested and he appears to love the attention and energy of children, but would be best with children older than 10 as he is high energy. His size and enthusiasm could easily knock younger children over. Despite his high energy level, most evenings Ronin can be found lying quietly on the sofa or living room floor, literally belly up.
Ronin knows his basic commands like sit, down and come. His recall is fairly consistent, and shows he wants to be with his humans. Can we say Velcro boy? He has good leash manners, but he has exhibited slight pulling tendencies when he is excited. His Foster has had him on short off-leash adventures and he generally returns when called, but nose to the ground exploration is his thing! He is highly food and treat motivated so with some patience and consistency he will be a great companion or family dog. He has shown he is very smart, observant and has a keen sense of smell. However, like Humans his strengths can sometimes be his weaknesses. Ronin has exhibited a few less desirable, albeit clever, talents: Ronin is not fond of being crated, and has practiced his ninja escape artistry on numerous occasions, so he is no longer crated in his foster home. In addition, he is an avid counter surfer, cabinet opener and trash snack bin picker because he follows his keen sense of smell. If you're looking for an adventure buddy or a solid family dog, Ronin might be your guy!
