Australian Shepherd Dogs Available for Adoption

Anvil is a 20-month-old, 55 pound Australian Shepherd with a dash of Great Pyrenees somewhere back in the family tree. He arrived with genetically awful hips and both hips have now been repaired. The result is a dog who is ready to get on with living, just with a slightly more sensible pace than your average Aussie.

This is not your “let’s summit a mountain before breakfast” herding dog. Anvil is more of a “nice walk, good company, and we’ll call it a win” kind of guy. He’ll lead a normal, happy life, but extreme athletic expectations are not part of the deal.

He’s good with people, but homes with very young, high-volume children are not his scene. If the kids are old enough to understand that dogs are not rodeo equipment, you’ll be in much better shape. Think middle school and up, not “fluffy pony phase.”

With other dogs, Anvil is generally easygoing, but he prefers a proper introduction and has zero interest in being body-checked by an over-enthusiastic social butterfly. After everything his joints have been through, we’re looking for calm, respectful canine companions who understand personal space.

His ideal home is laid-back, steady, and equipped with a fenced yard where he can stretch his legs, patrol lightly, and enjoy the day without chaos or pressure to perform. He’s a good dog who has already done the hard part. Now he just needs the right place to land and stay there.

The Australian Shepherd is a highly intelligent and energetic herding dog known for its loyalty and work ethic. Originating in the United States, despite its name, this breed is prized for its agility, trainability, and versatility in various dog sports and activities. Australian Shepherds have a distinctive medium length coat that comes in different colors, often with unique merle patterns. With proper training, socialization, and exercise, these dogs make excellent companions for active families and individuals seeking a devoted and playful four legged friend.
