Acorn is a 3-year-old neutered cattle dog mix with all the wonderful traits that make this breed so special. Rescued as a stray in West Virginia, Acorn has blossomed into a devoted, intelligent boy who is ready to find a home that understands and appreciates his working-dog heart.

True to his cattle dog roots, Acorn is a natural herder who thrives when he has purpose and structure in his day. He absolutely loves being outdoors — whether that means hikes, exploring a fenced yard, or engaging in activities that challenge his mind and body. After a day well spent, Acorn is more than happy to settle in and relax beside his people.

Acorn is very people-loving, though he can be a little shy when first meeting new friends. With patience and gentle reassurance, his affectionate and loyal personality shines through. He will do best with a confident handler who can help him feel safe and supported while navigating new environments.

Because of his herding instincts, Acorn would prefer a quieter home with children over 15 years old who can respect his space and understand his breed tendencies.

This handsome boy is dog friendly and has done well with most dogs he has met. One of his favorite things is hopping in the car with our volunteer Laura for hiking adventures — he’s an excellent travel buddy and always ready for the next outing.

Acorn is neutered and up to date on all appropriate vetting, and he’s ready to start his next chapter with a family that will give him the guidance, activity, and love he deserves.
