DESCRIPTION

Meet Evelyn, the Queensland heeler. This sensitive soul arrived to the Shelter as a stray so we don’t know a lot about her life before the Shelter. She was very nervous when she first arrived but has warmed up with patience and yummy treats. Once comfortable, she is very attentive to her person. She will sit for treats and makes great eye contact. Evelyn does have some strong herding breed instincts and would thrive in a dog savvy adoptive home that understands herding breed behaviors. A home without children running around, which may spark some of her herding instincts, is recommended. We do not have any history of Evelyn with other animals. A home with another dog may be a fit after a meet ‘n greet at the Shelter. Evelyn is available for preadoption - come meet her, fall in love and take her home after her spay surgery! The Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter Foundation is now offering “Pawsitivity Bucks” with every dog adoption. This $200 training voucher is a way for newly adopted canines and their guardians to connect with local positive reinforcement based behavior consultants and get their relationship started off on the right paw! Please note: Our Santa Cruz location’s Shelter hours are 11-6pm, 7 days a week! Although clients can walk through and see any animals in their kennels during open hours, we end “meet and greets” (aka meeting an animal out of the kennel) at 4:30pm every day. If you’d like to meet an animal out of the kennel, please arrive before 4:00pm to allow for time to discuss individual animals and meet them.

ABOUT: AUSTRALIAN CATTLE DOG BLUE HEELER DOG BREED

The Australian Cattle Dog, also known as the Blue Heeler, is a hardworking and intelligent breed originally developed in Australia for herding cattle. Renowned for their endurance and agility, these medium sized dogs have a striking blue or red speckled coat and alert, curious expression. With a strong herding instinct and boundless energy, they require mental stimulation and physical activity to thrive. Blue Heelers are loyal, protective, and make excellent companions for active individuals or families willing to provide the engagement and exercise they need.
