Hi, I’m Winter!
I’m about 9 months old and part of a really special program called Paws on the Block. I actually joined the program right before Christmas, and it’s been the best gift I could’ve asked for. Paws on the Block is a collaborative foster dog program between Foothill Dog Rescue and Folsom State Prison. Dogs like me are placed with a specific group of incarcerated men, who we call our handlers, who train us, socialize us, and care for us every single day until we find our forever homes. They have all helped me build confidence, learn good manners, and feel so loved. In return, the program gives them a sense of purpose, and helps build patience, empathy, and connection, it’s pretty special for all of us.
I’m a total people girl, I love everyone I meet and will happily soak up all the attention you’re willing to give. I’m also super dog-friendly and known around here as a bit of a “mentor dog.” I’ve helped some of my newer friends like Logan and Willard learn the ropes (puppies am I right), and I’ve even helped Rusty build confidence and have positive, happy interactions with other dogs. Basically, I’m kind of a star student and a great teacher ; )
I’m very smart (maybe a little too smart sometimes), and I already know all my basic commands. I’m crate trained, love my toys, and I love being brushed, what can I say, I’m a girly girl at heart. I’m also used to walking on a sidekick leash (you can see me modeling it in my picture!), and I walk beautifully right by your side, usually sneaking little glances up at you because I just love being connected.
Now, I’ll be honest with you, I’m not really a morning dogl. I’ll get up to go potty, of course, but after that… I like to ease into my day. And yes, I do have opinions! I’ve been known to “talk back” a little when I’ve got something to say, but I think it just adds to my charm.
I would do best in a home without cats or chickens, but I would absolutely love a home with people (and maybe some dog friends!) who will keep me active, engaged, and loved.
My handlers wanted me to tell you this: “I look forward to being part of your family, and bringing you all many great forever memories.”
With so much love and a wagging tail,
Winter
