GRACE

Anatolian Shepherd
🇺🇸
Newport, Washington
March 15th
female, large, adult

DESCRIPTION

Meet GRACE! Have you ever met an Anatolian shepherd before? They are supposed to be a livestock guardian breed, protecting their herd of people and critters from predators, but I’m not sure this sweet girl has ever met an enemy. She has the softest, gentleness demeanor. She loves all dogs and all people with every fiber of her being. She is house trained and has excellent manners. She enjoys going on adventures: trips to the coffee shop for a pup cup, to the local forest trails for hikes, long walks on the beach, play dates at the local dog park even. Grace is definitely a people person, leaning all of her 75# against your lap or legs, snuggling in for kisses and pets.

We don’t know if Grace has ever lived with cats. She is a big girl so small children are probably not the best match for her either. She came from a very neglectful situation and has only recently learned how to be a spoiled house dog. Some things are still kind of scary for her: long staircases, slippery floors, loud noises, and chaotic atmospheres can be challenging for her. Grace lived with a nutrient deficiency early in her life, which caused her to have weakened bones. Both of her front legs are misshapen, and one has an old fracture that healed crooked. We have had her evaluated, and the consensus is that she has an excellent quality of life, does not suffer currently from chronic pain, although she can get a little sore if she plays too much. She has Carprofen(anti-inflammatory medications) to be given as needed.

Grace's ideal home would be one where she has a mellow dog sibling, or is the only dog with occasional dog play dates outside the home. If she has a rowdy, playful sibling, she may exacerbate the weakness in her front legs. We would love to see Grace go with a family who will pursue therapeutic rehabilitation for her, helping her develop more strength, to give her the greatest chance at a pain-free life. Potential therapies for her include water treadmill, laser therapy, massage, acupuncture, and other alternative options. We would like to raise the funds to get her started on this path, and would love for her forever people to continue to follow the recommendations set forth.

Grace has so much joy in life and to give her forever family, she deserves every opportunity to thrive! Although Grace is being fostered in Port Angeles, Washington, we have wonderful volunteers who would drive her anywhere in the Pacific Northwest for the right home!

Grace is about 3-years old. She is spayed and up to date on her vaccines. If you are interested in adopting Grace, please fill out the application on our website at: https://www.westernaustralianshepherdrescue.com/adoption-application.html.

We only schedule meet n greets after a completed application which includes a home visit and reference checks.
