If couch-potato is what you seek, couch-potato you have found! Sweetie is her name so I guess she is a couch-sweet-potato or a sweet-couch-potato, all the same really. This girls only flaw is she has the power to convince you that whatever you “need” to do can wait. It happens in a glance, we call it “The Sweetie Look.” Those soft brown eyes are something special.

To be considered for the title of couch-sweet-potato, we put dogs through a rigorous test that includes, couches, snuggles, kids, a bed, at least one soft blanket and occasionally a rainy day. Sweetie passed the test with unquestionable precision. Warm, melty, snuggly sweet-potato goodness is all she could deliver. Sure every now and then her tail wag makes enough noise she may wake you from a light nap but we do not deduct points for that. If youre thinking this chill nature comes from age, you would be half right. Sweetie is just far enough away from the energetic puppy days to know the power of rest and relaxation. She is estimated to be 3 years old, she weighs 51 lbs, and is likely a pittie/staffie mix (as always with rescue, breed and age are best guesses).
With people, Sweetie is quiet, well-mannered and easy to handle. She recently met 7 year old Cash and we were all impressed by how wonderfully she minded him. He had her full attention and she looked at him so adoringly and eventually melted into him when he layed down to take a nap. Her vibe is calm, relaxed and she is not looking for chaos- we could easily see her being a great fit for older kids who will enjoy her snuggle without expecting a high-energy playmate. She would be a lovely fit for an apartment home (as long as the breed is allowed), but a house with a yard is welcome for those much needed sun-bathing sessions..
With other dogs, she’s polite and friendly meeting new dogs, with a confidence about herself we all called “auntie energy.” She was there for the company not the play, and wandered around with the dogs, sniffed and was perfectly content to herself. Her type was clearly the big, chill, goof ball but even he got a polite little correction when he kept kissing on her face(think of it like someone saying Staaahp!) Her ideal dog companion would be cool and relaxed. We also introduced her to our house cat and at this time we can’t say how she would be living with cats. We cant know if she has ever lived with cats and her interest in him was calm and respectful until he started to play and then her interest peaked and she moved towards him quickly- a little big of “what are you?” a little bit “what do you got?” She redirected easily with a simple correction and then ignored the cat playing but we would love for her to have a sleepover with our Kitty Committee to be sure before possibly joining a home with a cat.
Sweetie is VERY food motivated, which is great for training… and also means she’ll do best with clear food boundaries. She shows great house manners and was at ease sharing treats with another dog but we can see she has snack-thief tendencies, something that could cause issues with another dog. This is an easy fix though,: separate feeding, secure treats/chews, and slow intros around food. Which is best no matter the dogs.
If you’re looking for a calm, low-energy, quietly devoted companion who delivers peace right to your couch, Sweetie is your girl! . Apply today!
