Meet Akela, a 1-year-old Bulldog mix, weighing 50 pounds (as of 2/15/26). This adventurous pup was found foraging the streets of Tennessee, but he'd much rather be exploring the world with his fur-ever family. Let's make that happen!

Akela is an enthusiastic, incredibly friendly social butterfly with the sweetest, most gentle nature. While his activity level is calm for most of the time, don't be fooled! The minute you say "Let's go on an adventure!" this boy turns into Indiana Jones himself! Akela enjoys kayaking, hiking, swimming, and any other activity! If you're the type who lives for the excitement, this boy will be right there with you!

He also attends doggie daycare weekly to continue building excellent social skills. Akela prefers smaller play groups and is more on the submissive side with other dogs because he's not a fan of drama. In fact, he prefers the type of drama that includes scaling a mountain without a harness. Now THAT'S drama! Akela is confident and well-mannered in a variety of environments. Living on a farm, he is respectful and gentle with all kinds of animals (horses, cows, cats, pigs, chickens, ducks and babies). Might as well call him Old McDonald at this point!

He also shares his home with toddlers and has proven to be kind-spirited and patient which is great because he can teach you about patience after your toddler draws on the walls for the zillionth time.

Akela is both crate trained and leash trained, making him an easy addition to any loving home. He doesn't know commands yet, but this boy's so smart, he'll learn it in no time! He has been raised in an exceptional foster home that is committed to giving him every possible life experience and setting him up for success.

He's a truly one-of-a-kind dog ready for his forever family. Adopt Akela today!

All dogs are up to date on vaccinations and spayed/neutered at the time of adoption. All dogs require professional training to become the best family member they can be.

To adopt or learn more about Akela, you must fill out an adoption application. To find the application, copy and paste this URL into your browser: WWW.GDRNE.COM/ADOPTION-APPLICATION [Adoption Fee: $495] **

PLEASE READ: If a dog is listed, then s/he is currently available for adoption. Their information is correct to the best of our abilities and the information we have been given as of the day of posting. From time to time we receive new information/photos of a dog and we do recreate their listing, which means their old listing link will no longer be valid. If you are considering a dog but don't apply right away please make sure to search for the dog by name if the link you have no longer works.

Please note, GDRNE does not guarantee the breed of any dog or puppy unless stated that we have run DNA. All breeds listed are educated estimates. Note that if the dog is listed as an "Out of town pet" there are NOT additional transport fees - it is included in our adoption fee Our dogs are rescued from various situations. It is most likely that both their parents were strays and even if not, mixes of some sort and that their grandparents were mixes as well. The dog may have some genetic material of an American Staffordshire Terrier (pit bull). The dogs are usually mixes of many breeds, making them a breed all their own - a True and adorable American MUTT. If you are interested in this dog, you must submit an application. Great Dog is not a shelter so there is no building you can visit. Our dogs live in private foster homes until adopted. To learn more about our *shelterless* rescue, adoption fees, and procedures, review the list of Frequently Asked Questions on our website at WWW.GDRNE.COM.
