Akirra is ready for her retirement home 🤍
Akirra was found as a stray, and unfortunately no one came looking for her. She’s an Akita, estimated to be around 8 years old and about 64 lbs. She recently underwent a leg amputation due to cancer and is doing incredibly well—already adjusting to life as a tripod like a total champ.
Because of her breed, Akirra can be dog-selective. She’s not a fan of strong personalities but has successfully coexisted with calm dogs who respect her space. That said, she would truly thrive as the only dog in the home. She does well with dog-savvy cats and mostly ignores them.
With people, she is everything you’d hope for—loyal, loving, and deeply devoted. She’s wonderful with humans and children, loves to snuggle, give kisses, and absolutely thinks she’s a lap dog. She really embodies that protective, ride-or-die Akita personality.
Akirra does have separation anxiety and will need a patient home willing to work with her through it. With consistency, structure, and possibly anxiety support, we know she’ll continue to improve. She’s very smart and will benefit from both mental and physical stimulation.
In addition to her amputation, she also had an enlarged lymph node removed as a precaution. She’s healing beautifully, and we are currently awaiting pathology results to better understand her long-term outlook.
Akirra is being fostered in Huntsville, UT and is ideally looking for a home without other dogs where she can continue to build confidence and feel safe. Even if you’re not local, we’re happy to coordinate transport for the right fit. Foster-to-adopt is also an option to ensure it’s a perfect match.
She is up to date on vaccines, we believe she is spayed (a scar was noted), and she will be microchipped prior to adoption.
If you think you could be her person, please fill out an adoption application and our adoption coordinator will be in touch. If you’re interested in fostering first, you can note that in your application as well.
