Meet Balto! Balto is 2 years old and one of 16 dogs who recently made the journey to us from Puerto Rico in search of a brighter future.

From Vieques Humane Society: Balto is a confident, intelligent, energetic, sweet and loving boy. He does best in a cat-free home and can get along with certain dogs, but he is dominant prefers to be the leader of the pack.

Balto is very smart and highly food motivated, which makes him a great candidate for training. With a little patience and consistency, he’s eager to learn and will thrive with someone who enjoys working with him.

The Akita is a powerful and dignified dog breed originating from Japan, known for its loyalty, intelligence, and independent nature. They have a distinctive curled tail, erect ears, and a dense double coat that comes in various colors. Akitas are renowned for their strong protective instincts, making them excellent guard dogs. However, they require firm training and socialization to manage their dominant tendencies. With the right guidance and care, Akitas can be loving, devoted companions for experienced dog owners.
