❗️GETTING TO KNOW US
Flurry and Ember are special and unique long-haired Selkirk Rex. They are part of the “messy hair, don’t care” breed where lush, thick and soft coat flows in waves and curls. Although it looks messy, it is not matted. Flurry is a lovely lavender cream girl with intense gold eyes in sharp contrast to her muted color. Ember is a mitted, seal point girl with lovely blue eyes. Each girl weighs around nine pounds.
Flurry and her partner in kitty crime Ember came to PurrHarmony very frightened, shutdown and under socialized. Their previous environment was quite chaotic with rambunctious and loud dogs, several other cats and too much life for them to feel comfortable. Barely touchable, Flurry found hiding spaces in the deepest crevices of her foster room. One glance or step by her foster parent sent her deeper into hiding. Ember observed everything from a distance and is bit more introverted.
Their nightmares took a wonderful turn for the better after being allowed to settle in, relax and take things at their own pace. And, wow, what personalities they share with trusted humans. Flurry loves, loves, loves being pet and will jam her head into your hand and demand to be scritched. When Ember is soliciting pets, Flurry MUST join the action. (And they share attention without a hint of envy.) Flurry thinks it is cool to flop over and extend an invitation for a belly rub, although she quickly realizes it overstimulates her. Ember could be pet for hours before settling into a snuggly bed.
WHAT a player Flurry is. Everything is a toy. She and Ember love a long wand toy and happily go “fishing” together. Flurry is also a fantastic soccer player. She loves slamming toys across the room, retrieving them and starting over. She even does this with her beloved dehydrated chicken treats. It gets batted, pounced upon and consumed in fine fashion. Ember is a bit more demure while Flurry is a bit of a tomboy. But both girls just love to entertain themselves with whatever they find.
Recently Flurry has taken another big step in her comfort level when she climbed onto her foster mom and snuggled in for a little while. The days of looking for a cave to hide out in are being buried in the past. A soft lap with warm blankets is so much better.
The work these beautiful girls have put in to push aside their fear deserves an A+. That being said, there is still work to be done, and the transition to a forever home will come with a setback or two. This is to be expected and will not last long in the perfect home.
Are you the perfect home? You are if you are willing to adopt both Flurry and her best friend Ember; your home is quiet and routine; there are no kids; you describe yourself as a homebody with lots of patience and no immediate expectations for these two. The only dog that might be okay must be a couch potato. One or two low key cats would be okay.
They are perfect with their litterboxes. They use large open boxes with clumping, unscented litter. They are fed Honest Kitchen dehydrated wet food along with a bit of Orijen kitten kibble. (They turned 1 in December so it would be fine to transition to an adult food.) And do not forget the dehydrated chicken treats 😊! These were key to their adjustment. Ember will take one directly from your fingers and beg for more. Flurry prefers that you drop one, so she can first smack it around the room, pounce and eat.
They have such a bright future. We cannot wait to hear how they blossom from foster care into a forever home. Until then, we continue to watch the magical transformation and continue to love them to the moon and back.
Flurry and Ember must be adopted together. They have lived together forever, born one week apart and complement each other well. They provide comfort and companionship for each other.
❗️VETTING PROVIDED
To ensure ultimate health, Flurry and Ember are spayed, received a comprehensive exam, current on rabies and FVRCP vaccines, are FELV/FIV negative, have had bloodwork and are microchipped.
