SMARTIES est une chatte tuxedo toute délicate aux incroyables yeux verts lumineux mais au regard mélancolique; avec son adorable nez rose et son petit grain de beauté au dessus de sa lèvre, elle est tout simplement croquante :) En très bonne santé et de taille plutôt menue, la jolie demoiselle a environ quatre (4) ans.
SMARTIES nous a été confiée au refuge à la fin décembre 2022 après avoir été cruellement jetée à la rue en plein hiver, suite à l'hospitalisation de sa propriétaire. Mademoiselle fût ensuite adopté à l'été 2023 mais a malheureusement été ramenée au refuge en peu de temps ; l'adoptant trouvait qu'elle était trop timide mais n'avait pas tenté de rapprochements avec elle non plus... Traumatisée par ces deux abandons, la pauvre fille est restée distante et craintive auprès des humains pendant longtemps. Mais depuis quelques mois, la belle SMARTIES démontre de l'intérêt quand les employés et les bénévoles viennent la visiter dans la salle commune - qu'elle partage très pacifiquement avec une vingtaine d'autres chats attendant leur adoption.
Nous croyons que ces interactions de plus en plus fréquentes et amicales et son appréciation accrue pour les caresses sont "un signe" que c'est vraiment le bon temps pour trouver un bon foyer à SMARTIES !
En effet, une fois que SMARTIES vous connaît, vous avez affaire à une minette au tempérament tendre qui aime les douces caresses et se faire gratter le menton gentiment en lui chuchotant des mots rassurants. Quand votre présence est accompagnée de succulentes gâteries de chats (Madame raffole des tubes crémeux) vous aurez droit à des discrètes marques d'affection de sa part - elle pousse votre main avec sa tête et ronronne. Cela permet effectivement d'établir un contact positif avec la petite bonne femme et de créer un lien de confiance graduellement.
Il reste certes du travail à faire pour l'amener à être plus à l'aise avec les gens. La mignonne ne se promène que très rarement en notre présence et elle est encore trop timide pour pouvoir la manipuler ou la brosser. SMARTIES passe énormément de temps dans le caisson de son arbre à chats préféré, d'ou elle se sent en sécurité. Cette princesse poilue ne démontre aucun comportement agressif (ne mord, ne griffe et ne crache pas) - son mécanisme de défense est la fuite et/ou se cacher. SMARTIES est très "propre", utilisant sa litière de façon exemplaire.
Nous recherchons des adoptants calmes, bienveillants et surtout patients - des personnes qui ont une bonne expérience avec les chats timides qui sont conscients qu'ils devront prendre tout le temps nécessaire pour parfaire sa socialisation en lui donnant beaucoup d'amour et en respectant son rythme. SMARTIES pourrait s'adapter comme seul animal de la maisonnée mais serait probablement plus heureuse de cohabiter avec un ou d'autres chats sociables et non-dominants. La chérie se sentira plus confortable si elle a un/des copains félins autour d'elle avec qui interagir et lui tenir compagnie. Nous recommandons toutefois un foyer sans chiens et sans enfants car étant plutôt nerveuse, il faut minimiser toute source de stress qui nuirait à son épanouissement et à son bien-être.
SMARTIES a tristement passé presque toute sa vie au refuge dans l’attente silencieuse d’un cœur prêt à l’accueillir.. Il est temps que son histoire prenne un nouveau tournant. Cette petite âme précieuse mérite enfin de découvrir la douceur d’un foyer où elle pourra se sentir aimée et en sécurité. Seriez-vous celui ou celle qui lui offrira cette chance ? Pour SMARTIES, ce serait un cadeau inestimable.

SMARTIES is a delicate tuxedo cat with luminous green eyes that always seem to carry a hint of melancholy. With her adorable pink nose and the beauty mark above her lip, she is simply irresistible. In excellent health and on the petite side, this lovely lady is about four (4) years old.
SMARTIES was entrusted to the shelter at the end of December 2022 after being cruelly abandoned outdoors in the middle of winter when her owner was hospitalized. She was adopted in the summer of 2023, only to be returned shortly afterward; her adopter found her “too shy” but had made no real effort to bond with her. After enduring two abandonments, this poor girl withdrew into herself and remained fearful of humans for a long time. But over the past few months, beautiful SMARTIES has begun showing interest when staff and volunteers come to visit her in the communal room she peacefully shares with about twenty other cats waiting for their forever homes.
We believe that these increasingly frequent and friendly interactions—and her growing appreciation for gentle petting—are clear signs that the time has truly come for SMARTIES to find a loving home of her own !
Once SMARTIES gets to know you, you’ll discover a tender‑hearted kitty who enjoys soft strokes and having her chin gently scratched while you whisper reassuring words to her. And if your presence comes with delicious cat treats (she adores creamy tubes), she will offer subtle signs of affection—nudging your hand with her head and purring quietly. These small gestures help build a positive connection and gradually strengthen the bond of trust.
There is still work to be done to help her feel fully at ease with people. This cutie pie rarely walks around when we are present, and she is still too timid to be handled or brushed. SMARTIES spends much of her time curled up inside the cubby of her favorite cat tree, where she feels safe. This furry princess never shows aggression—no biting, scratching, or hissing. Her only defense is to flee or hide. SMARTIES is also impeccably clean and uses her litter box perfectly.
We are looking for calm, caring, and above all patient adopters—people with solid experience with shy cats, who understand that they will need to give her all the time she needs to continue her socialization, offering love while respecting her pace. SMARTIES could adapt as the only pet in the home, but the darling would likely be happier living with one or more friendly, non‑dominant cats. Having feline companions around her would help her feel more comfortable and provide her with company. We do recommend a home without dogs or children, as she is easily stressed and needs a peaceful environment to truly flourish.
SMARTIES has sadly spent almost her entire life at the shelter, quietly waiting for a heart ready to welcome her. It is time for her story to take a new turn. This precious little soul deserves to finally experience the warmth of a home where she can feel loved and safe. Could you be the one to offer her that chance?
