Hemingway is a playful, goofy guy with a big personality. He has a short, stocky build and a beautiful silver tabby coat that’s incredibly fluffy — he’s the kind of cat you just want to run your hands through. He adores head scratches and is starting to enjoy gentle pets more and more each day. While he’s okay with being picked up for a moment, it’s not his favorite thing. What he really loves is curling up beside you, soaking in the affection, and hearing what a good boy he is. He also likes to follow you around and be where the action is.
Hemingway takes playtime very seriously. He’s fast, athletic, and full of energy — but also wonderfully klutzy. In fact, he might be the exception to the rule that cats always land on their feet! When he’s chasing a wand toy, he’ll launch himself through the air or run excited circles trying to catch it, sometimes tumbling onto his side or bumping into a wall along the way. His playful antics are guaranteed to make you laugh. He also loves climbing up cat trees and shelves so he can perch up high and overlook his kingdom.
Hemingway is naturally curious and adventurous, and he enjoys exploring his surroundings once he feels comfortable. When Hemingway first enters a new environment, he may spray for a couple of days while he settles in and gets used to the space. We’ve noticed this behavior stops once he feels secure. Because he seems sensitive to the scent of other cats, he may do best as the only cat in the home. He would also probably need a large high sided covered litter box or at least tape up some pee pads around and under his litter box until he is settled in.
Hemingway could be a good match for a home with older, respectful children but no dogs or young children would be best to help keep his stress level down. If you’re looking for a funny, fluffy companion who will keep you entertained and happily curl up next to you at the end of the day, Hemingway might just be your guy.
