Benito was transferred to Valley Humane on 2/10 from the Tri City Animal Shelter. He is a young adult (estimated to be between 1 and 4 years old) and weighs 9.1 pounds.
Benito arrived at VHS with inflammation of the gums in his mouth (stomatitis). Stomatitis is believed to be an allergic response to plaque in the mouth. Unfortunately, for many cats, the only long term treatment for this condition is extraction of the teeth caudal to (behind) the canine teeth. We have extracted the teeth, and are hopeful that the inflammation resolves completely. However, if the stomatitis does not resolve entirely, it could be possible that he could require extraction of the remaining canine and incisor teeth sometime in the future. If the adopting family's veterinarian feels that remaining tooth extraction is required, it will be up to the adopting family to pursue this treatment.
