Cable Car is a sassy yet sophisticated gentleman who loves to give head bonks and get scritchies around his face and neck. He's had quite the journey to recovery since arrival at our shelter suffering from a big ulcer on his upper lip. Cable Car has what's called a rodent ulcer, though to confirm- there were no rodents involved in the making of this ulcer! They typically develop as a result of an allergic reaction.
Believe it or not, Cable Car's looking miles better than he did upon arrival. That said, his upper lip may keep some of its cartoonish shape in the future, just due to the length of time Cable Car's been living with it. He's presently on a vet-prescribed diet to treat food allergies indefinitely, and he also takes Gabapentin in his food for shelter nerves and to main his lip's general comfort. Cable Car is a distinguished fellow but he'd prefer a childfree space with patient, savvy folks who can give him time to decompress. Shelter life has been stressful for him on his medical journey to healing, and he'd love to find a space with folks can let him choose when and how he wants to interact, at least while he's adjusting to a new space. The happy, well-adjusted Cable Car can be a big goofball, though- he likes a good petting and a leisurely nap in the sun, and if you're lucky he may roll around to show off his belly to you!

This cat has tested positive for Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV), which is specific to the felines and is not transmissible to dogs, humans, or any other animals. Cats with FIV can live normal, happy, healthy lives, but the virus can weaken a cat's immune system. FIV is spread from cat to cat via mating or deep puncture bite wounds. Thankfully, all our cats are spayed or neutered, so mating is no longer an option! Since FIV does not spread through casual contact like grooming, sneezing, and food/litter sharing, FIV+ cats can live with other cats that have tested negative as long as the cats get along without fighting. Our staff will be happy to tell you more about FIV, and you can learn more about FIV here: phillypaws.org/fiv
