DESCRIPTION

It will be no mystery to Celtics fans how this boy got his name. Scalabrine is a friendly orange shorthair, about a year old, who was rescued off the street as a frightened, hungry, abandoned stray after the person who meant the world to him just dumped him out to fend for himself in single-digit temperature-- discarded him as though he were worthless! A kind neighbor helped us get him off the street, and he went to the veterinarian the very next day. Once he arrived in his foster home, he showed signs of having been abused in his previous life, especially given the fear he displayed when his foster mom tried to pick him up. Cats like this remind us why we rescue-- as if we needed reminding. However, it didn't take him long to realize that his days of being neglected and mistreated were behind him, and he soon showed himself to be a friendly, affectionate little guy ready to rebound from his former tough life and make his hoop dreams come true. It's a slam dunk that he's the kind of cat who will greet you out the door to show you he's happy to see you come back. He even chirps for attention. He'll hop on the sofa and curl up next to you. He seems interested in making friends with the resident cat in his foster home, although she seems to have other ideas. We haven’t seen him around dogs or children yet. We don't think he would be a good match for a home with the bustle of very young children, but we think he'd do fine with older kids who know how to be respectful to cats. Nearly all cats are OK with kids like that. Scalabrine would do best in an interactive home where he isn’t left alone for long hours. Whoever is fortunate enough to adopt this boy will gain a devoted companion for life.

He has been neutered, is current on vaccinations, tested negative for FeLV and FIV, and treated for worms and fleas. His adopter will receive his medical records. He’s being fostered in Revere. Adoptions are facilitated by video meet-and-greets, as well as in-person visits. There is a simple adoption process and an adoption fee, which helps us continue rescuing cats in need. In Scalabrine's case, it's a mere $225-- a bargain for a new best friend who will love you for the rest of his life. Cats can live up to 20 years, so please consider whether you can commit to providing a safe, loving home for life before adopting. Please email Safercats11@gmail.com with your phone number and a little about yourself and the home you would provide. Doing so helps rescuers match cats with the right adopters.
