Domestic Short Hair Cats Available for Adoption

Meet JB,

Meet James (short for James Bond because of his handsome tuxedo)! James had been living outside in Chelsea since at least 2021 and was being taken care of by his current foster mom and dad (and many neighbors) since late 2024. James was an extremely well loved stray cat in Admirals Hill. Over the last year and a half many attempts were made to trap James but none were ever successful. Luckily, just before the big snowstorm in late January, James’ foster mom realized that he loves catnip and one more attempt was made to get him inside before the 2’ of snow and freezing temperatures. The catnip worked like a charm! He spent a week with Melrose Humane Society going to the vet and was neutered and vaccinated. He is FIV and FELV negative. He’s been living with his foster family since January 30.

James has adapted wonderfully to life as an indoor cat. His favorite spots are his cat pad and heated bed (both of which will go with him to his forever home). He’s still figuring out humans and is not (yet) a lap cat but loves head scratches and being near people. He will also jump and run for treats (pictured). He’s been a great work from home buddy for mom and has increased her productivity with his calming presence. He’s been the perfect houseguest, has excellent manners, only scratches his scratcher, and is a 10/10 litter box user. James is a wise, gentle, sweet soul. It’s clear that he is relieved to finally be indoors, safe, warm, and able to deeply relax after so many years on the streets. He also has the sweetest little meow we’ve ever heard.

James is not shy, but will likely need a few days to adjust to his new home. We think that he would thrive in a home with someone who understands cats and will give him the time and love he needs to continue trusting humans.
