Meet Winston.
Winston is about two years old, and you can tell he has lived in those two short years. His big tomcat cheeks — once armor for fighting off other males — tell a story of survival. He wasn't wanted. He wasn't loved. He was simply trying to make it.
One afternoon, a trap was set for another cat. A local Columbus resident had lost his female kitty and was hoping to catch her. Instead, Winston found himself inside the trap. The man contacted the local shelter and was told to release him. He didn't want Winston around and was in the process of driving him to drop him off in the woods on a back road — alone — when a friend intervened.
She remembered Operation Colony Cats had helped her before. She made one call. That one call changed everything.
Winston was brought in to at least be neutered. But then we met him.
Oh, precious, handsome, sweet Winston. This boy doesn't want to fight. He doesn't want to roam. He wants a lap. He wants safety. He wants to press his big tomcat head into your chest and finally rest.
He does carry a visible reminder of his past — one eye has some cloudiness from an old fight wound and some facial scarring. A veterinarian has examined him thoroughly, and it does not affect his ability to navigate or enjoy life. It's simply proof of what he survived.
Winston would do wonderfully in a family setting. He's curious about other cats but not reactive. Dogs are currently unknown. What we do know is that he is gentle, affectionate, and so very ready for a different life.
His story could have ended on a lonely back road in the woods. It almost did.
But one human chose to make a call instead of looking away. And because of that, Winston is one of the lucky ones.
Now he's waiting for the next chapter — the one where he spends his days and nights curled up beside someone who sees his scars not as damage, but as proof of resilience.
Winston is the kind of lucky you don't pass up.
All of the Sweet Paws animals are loved a great deal by their rescuers, fosters, and the volunteers who've cared for them along the way. Your kitten will be up to date on appropriate vaccinations by adoption day, but please keep in mind that kittens require multiple routine vet visits throughout the course of their first year. Sweet Paws is staffed by volunteers, and processing applications is time intensive; therefore, we ask that you only submit an application if you are fully committed to adopting.
